If you want to do it on the cheap, you are still going to need a separate sub amp for your subs.
Cut the speaker wires to the Bose sub. Splice into the rear speaker +/- wires and run those to the speaker level inputs on your amp. If your amp doesn't have speaker level inputs, you can buy a speaker level to RCA adapter. Run new power & ground wires. You will have to splice into the remote wire. Remove the Bose sub and that will help the sound from the trunk get into the cabin, you don't want that thing playing and interfering anyway. If you need more I will try to check back.

The best advice I have is to replace all of the Bose with aftermarket. I know that's expensive, so your idea is a second choice.

If you have an aftermarket sub, you MUST get an amp. There is not going to be anywhere near enough power on anything that comes stock in your car to run a sub.

I am assuming you have an 03 Max, so I am not sure if you can use the 95-02 interface most people use. If this doesn't work for your car, you might have to do more research. PAC probably makes an adapter for it, but I am not sure.

Here is the 95-02 one:

95-02 Bose interface

It converts your Bose wiring to add additional Front and Rear RCAs, along with a remote lead, so you can install an amp, thus you can put in a sub or other speakers.

Certainly looks like it would do the trick. The one thing you are not going to get is the ability to tune your sub on the go. I routinely adjust the level of my sub depending on the music I am playing. Some music is mixed so bass heavy you can't hear anything else. To do this you would need an aftermarket HU that has separate sub outputs. Just a thought before you end up with something you aren't satisfied with. Aftermarket HU's are so cheap now. And you would get some additional storage beneath your HU.

Make sure you disconnect and remove the Bose sub. You will have to remove the entire rear seat (6 pcs), the black plastic covers over the trunk access hole (3 pcs) and the C-pillars (2 pcs) before you can slide the parcel shelf cover down and get at the bolts. Removing this sub will make a big improvement to your aftermarkets subs sound from the trunk.

like he said. i would definately go aftermarket HU and get a DIN pocket put under. you get extra storage plus it can make your deck look better with the colour of the display of the HU, or you can get one which you can change the colours.

they all reasonably priced with ipod/ mp3/ aux inputs these days too

i asked this forum about car audio wiring and have some pics of my deck with a DIN pocket you can check it out if you want
