Well I finally had a chance to watch Fridays's 20 20 on my Tivo and the piece they did on unsafe tires and how to read the date code on the tires.I checked mine.I purchased four new tires earlier this year. Two were manufactured in 07 and two were manufactured in 03.504G wrote:I work at a tire shop called Delta World Tire and I would never do that!!!
These are the first replacement set purchased at the dealer. I never thought to record the date codes on my original OEM set but I will from now on. Even us old farhts learn something new every day.rn79870 wrote:I just checked my tires. Apparently the new tires are going to the vehicle manufacturers. My car was built in 08/07 and the tires are week 31 of 07. All 4 are the same date. They got those Goodyears to Japan pretty quickly. (or are they manufacturing them there?)
I guess the secret is that you need to ask to see the tires before they put them on your car. If they are more than a few years old, don't buy them.

Now if all you do is commute on two wheels a cheaper less stickey tire is just fine....
The argument got big with the guys I rode with when some of them would buy "take offs" that were super stickey at the races - they are extra stickey but they are only good for about 40-50 "heat cycles" before they start falling apart - so a "deal" on some take offs at half price only last a month instead of 4-9 mos.
What- no bagging on the Ranchero? She'll feel left out - besides the Ranchero is my dog's truck - she loves it cause its easier to get in to and she can see out the windshield so she drools less...telcoman wrote:

I won't comment on your 67 Mustang.
Did I ever tell you about my first car, a 1958 Ford POS? It would never start on rainy or damp days. It added stress to me going to High School. That was a long time ago

I have received great service from my Infiniti dealer. The service people have told their supplier not to send old out of date tires. All tire dealers should be doing the same.IMHO the dates should be stamped on the tires and not in the present code. When you purchase a chicken there is a sell by date clearly marked on the package. The same should hold true for tires. Of course the tire manufactures lobby is opposed the same way American Automobile manufactures were opposed to the CAFE standards. They thought by forcing the Japanese to open plants here in the US they could hold off the competetion. Well they sure $ucked themselves with tens of thousands of jobs lost.SorryBeancooker wrote:Great info, and sweet deal on the new tires!
