Okay so I'm getting the last of the parts for my 5spd swap and I'm getting the neutral position switch, the backup light switch, and the 5th gear switch. Does anyone know if they are all the same? They sure look the same.

My problem is with the neutral position switch. According to the FSM I should have continuity on the switch when the gear is in neutral. However I tested it with a multimeter and the switch I just got only closes the circuit when the button on it is pressed (in gear, out of neutral). When I look in the hole it goes into, there is a notch taken out for the neutral position which means the switch will be in the unpressed (circuit open) position. This is the opposite of what the FSM says.

Is there a misprint in the FSM, do I have the wrong switch or what? Advanced auto definitely has it listed as the neutral switch. I was under the impression that all 3 switches were the same but if I go by the FSM the neutral switch should open (disconnect) the circuit when the button is pressed and be closed (connected) when the button is released. The 5spd and the reverse light switch close the circuit when the button is pressed so the FSM is right for those. I used these same switches on my s13 transmission and didn't have a problem.

Can anyone help me out? Do I have the right switch or do they operate differently from one another? Could someone pull the harness from their neutral switch and verify whether the switch circuit is open or closed when the trans is in and out of neutral?

Thanks.

switches definitely have different part numbers, but i know that doesn't really answer your question and sorry, i don't have s14 mt or i would run the test for you. i will look into it more and see if i can find out anything.

on another note, you mentioned, in another post, scrap yards in VA that had s14 mt parts. i am looking for a speed sensor, bellhousing and maybe crossmember since i am attempting to put an s13 trans into an s14- bright idea, i know. would you mind e-mailing me the scrap yard names @ [email protected]?

thanks,kevin
