completely differend animals;280Z = 75-78, S30 chassis280ZX =79-83 S130 chassis

the S30 designation includes all 70-73 240Z's, 74 260Z's as well as the 75-78 280Z, these are all basic sports cars, there are many changes throughout te years but the engine displacement increases changed the model names, lightweight, bare bones sort of sports car

the S130 was longer and heavier and moved more toward Grand Touring with much more creature comforts, things not found on the S30's such as power windows and locks, power steering, leather upholstry and seats that are actually kinda confortable, more andnicer interior trim, 4 wheel disk brakes, available T-tops, as well as the turbo engine which became available in 81

glad i saw this. i've been wondering: is the 280ZX nissan or datsun? i've always thought that's when they changed to nissan. or was the change with the Z31 300ZX? or was it sometime during the 280ZX?

I think Nissan started using Nissan rather than datsun in the US about 1980, my old 280zx used to have both nameplates on it and it was an 80'

it's still the same company they just changed the name, it was already Nissan in the rest of the world but they thought Datsun sounded more americar (yeah I know), as for the change it was kinda a fuzzy line, the first vehicle to be sold as nissan only in the states was the 82 stanza, the 82 280ZX was still Datsun by nissan, and the 84 Z31's were badged as Nissan by datsun so there was no real clean brake for the name conversion
