and don't forget, very important you use the type J fluid.Castrol may have a formulation, otherwise must go to a nissan dealer and get 'nissan matic J'.

i got the J fluid from Caltex

and i drain ~4L out and refill 4L into itbut i still affraid the amount of the fluid i refilled is not enough

i got so many doubts because there is just around 10 Qs in Hong Kongand very few garages know how to look after it

You just did a pan drain and refill. You still left about 6L of contaminated fluid in the torque converter.

Do you have a dip stick? I had to buy one brcause the car here in the US did not come with one. I did the sane for mine, drop pan change filter and replace, fill fluid. You will be fine with this method as ling as you do this at least twice a year. I have been doing this with all my cars with no issues.

Albert, can you tell me where you bought the dipstick, and what the part number is?

Here you go Mark,

ATF Level Indicator

To prevent accidental use of ATF other than Nissan Matic-J, the new Q45 (F50) is not equipped with an ATF level indicator. For service and repair, the level indicator will be supplied to all Infiniti dealers as an essential Special Service Tool (# J-45475). Please refer to the AT section of the 2002 Q45 Service Manual for the unique "A" fluid service procedures on the RE5R05A transmission

Common for sealed for life AT [or 100,000 shifts] whichever occurs first to delete an ATF dip stick so owners and discount mechanics won't be tempered to add oil or coolant, washer fluid, or brake fluid to AT.

When I replaced my 99 C43 AMG transmission [at 103k] I had to order a dip stick for this 5 AT......................it actually had a sealed LOCK to prevent access.

Common on Japaneses and EU car now and all Infiniti.

Just understand that the $4,400 transmission is purely in your hands and don't complain if something you add or don't replace terminates its life prematurely.

Are you saying your transmission failed in your 2002 q45? How many miles on it?

I got mine at the dealership and it was $30 I think. Then I left it in the car.

I just now discovered the 'missing transmission dipstick issue' for my 2002 Q- I knew Mercedes did the sealed thing, but am really surprised that Infiniti started this. I have dipsticks in my other two Infiniti automtics (closes eyes and shakes head in wonderment). I'm going thru a shop for ordering the dipstick kit and understand the logic of 4 quarts out & 4 quarts in, but to just have no way to check your fluid level when on a long holiday or a road trip through Nevada/Arizona desert? It's not like there's an Infiniti dealership on every corner. Probably there's a sensor lite that pops up for low fluid levels. It just seems like you're asking for trouble.

Are the rest of you actually changing your transmission fluid every 30k or once a year???? Nitro-Nicky

Joe will have the cheapest price.

Most manufacturers prefer you use the transmission then replace it.

The first thing I ever had to 'try' to replace on my 02Q45 was the wood shift knob.I walk up to the parts counter and tell him what I need and he says" "395 plus tax" I pull out a 5 dollar bill and said "I'll take one". He just looked at me with a straight face and said "three HUNDRED and Ninety-five Dollars". .......I said "I don't want the whole shifter.....just the knob!!!!"He didn't laugh and I got my first taste of Infiniti parts pricing!!
