Verteran Nissan Owner Buys 95 Maxima - Is Clueless Now

Ok so I have recently picked up a '95 Maxima GXE to add to my stable of Nissans. Problem is I have no knowledge about this generation. Honestly I am not sure which generation it is.

Looking for:

95 specifications
Engine Version (is this a VG or VQ)
Optional tire sizes (205/65-15 seems really small)
Things to look out for...
Any info I can get the better...

Thanks in advance

Well...it's a 4th gen with a VQ30de. 205 is a little small. You should be running at least 215 for tires. As far as specifications go, I believe the VQ30 is somewhere around 190hp and 205ft/lbs of torque and its a 3.0L. For things to look out for, pull your codes and check for a knock sensor code. It is a ghost code and will not trip your SES light. It retards your timing and gives you poor performance and gas mileage regardless of the octane you put in. There is a plethora of available info on these cars available on the net and on forums. A great site for keeping your max on the road is http://www.motorvate.ca If you need anything else, search for it on the forum or just ask.

I had a 95 SE Max once and it was a good car. I ran 215-65-15 on it and they looked better than the 205 size. I only had one coil go out on the back cylinder which took me a while to find because it ran good until it warmed up and then I noticed a slight miss in the engine. Get you a repair manual at Autozone ect. They are worth the money and after reading through it you will know how to repair almost everything. This is a easy car for maintenance. This is why I traded my Q45 for a 01 I30 which is about the same motor as the Maxima just 37 more ponies. The Maxima got 30 MPG on the highway which was lovely for a 6 cyl car. The I30 gets about 28.

4th generation was 1995-1999. Chassis designation is A32. It's actually a lot like your 2001; the two have a lot in common. Both share the same basic engine and the exact same transmission.

Engine is the VQ30DE. 190hp and 205 ft lb.

As mentioned above, 215 is a great alternative to the stock 205 tires. You can go with a 215/65 or 215/60. The 65 aspect ration will be a tiny bit taller than your stock tires, the 60s a tiny bit shorter. Neither will make a significant difference in the speedometer or odometer readings.
I'd go with 215/60/15 if it were me.
Of course, you could always buy new wheels and step up to something wider if 215 still sounds too narrow. It has the same lug pattern as your Z and 2001 Max and all other 5 lug Nissans.

I can relate to the coil incident. My car was missing at low speeds
in town. When I went on a three hour trip on the highway, it ran
just fine. As a matter of fact, when I got to my destination in the
new town, I kept in mind the car had been missing but I couldnt
even "make" it miss. I would turn the car off and on and it would
idle fine and run fine at low speeds. I thought it fixed itself, maybe
there was carbon on the plug or something. BUT I got up the next
day and the car was missing again! Later the culprit turned out to
be a coil. Just wierd!

The stock 15s on a 95 are going to be pretty narrow rims, I think 15x6. The 4th gen SE rims (I have them on my car in my sig) are 16x6.5. You can find these for sale very cheap.

When I bought the rims, they had on 225/55/16s on them. You might be able to go with a 235/50/16, but I am not sure if the rim width can handle it.

If you upgrade to 17s, you can fit 235/45/17s easily on a 17x7 or a 17x8.
