hey everyone, i just started doing my 5 speed swap as of today!, so i thought i would post a thread on my progress, and maybe get advice, help.. haha

well here's the situation, i bought this 89 240sx with a blown motor and bad auto transmission, so i am swapping the motor out, and dropping in another ka24e i bought from a local guy, and a 5 speed swap...

Materials i have, if i'm missing anything let me know!

-5 speed transmission w/ shifter-5 speed cross member-5 speed drive shaft non abs-clutch kit (exedy)-clutch master and slave cylinder (nabaco)-clutch pedal and brake pedal-clutch hardline and softline-m/t mount

i already have the flywheel bolts, since the flywheel came with the engine i bought and its bolted on...

do i need any other bolts other than the m/t flywheel bolts? .. im not quite sure what bolts to use for the Master or slave cylinder

also anyone have any tips for me, removing the brake pedal seems tough.. so im going to do that first thing tomorrow.. advice would be appreciated.

also what is the best way to remove the 4 bolts on the drive shaft near the differential? .. sockets didn't seem to go on there good enough, so i'm guessing just a regular wrench?

and last question, where is the drain bolt for the transmission oil pan? i thought it would of been on the bottom of it.. but i didn't see any drain bolts (16mm) on the bottom :S..

heres some PICS! excuse the gay rims :P got some se's i need to put some tires on lol

ahh and this is the transmission oil pan right?

I missed those when I did mine.

Here's my recommendations.

- Bell housing bolts and nuts- Clutch hardline bracket & clip- Exhaust bracket that goes from transmission mount to cat- New throwout bearing - Rear main seal- transmission front and rear seals- Weather/shifter boots

I removed steering shaft and it was easy to swap brake pedal.

Yes, use regular wrench for the drive shaft.

hmm, can you use the a/t bolts to the belhousing? or do you need to get bolts from a m/t?

and, are the seals hard to get off? do you need some special tool to get em off?

You can just pry the seals out. Someone said bell housing bolts are different and also new bolts are recommended. Forgot pilot bushing. Based on my experience, the hardest part was locating s13 clutch hardline and bracket. They have been discontinued. I searched for a week and found them. Other people told me to use Agency power braided line, but I don't think you can beat the feel of oem hardline.

I'm disoriented by that pic-I'm not sure what that is, is that on the firewall inside the car under the dash? If so I will look at mine and see if it has that "thing" sticking out, s13 and s14 should be somewhat the same...

is this swap gonna cost you 4-500 for the grand total? If so that's not a bad deal, especially since s-chassis auto cars are usually at least a grand or two cheaper than m/t's. Very interesting!

yeah don't rip your car to pieces, I was gonna say that metal piece doesn't look like something "useless", it looks too complex and must have a purpose for something. I still don't know how to look at that picture

Check out my write up. They work as a guide for bolts that go from clutch pedal bracket to clutch master cylinder.

Remove the dampener line that's attached the lower portion of clutch hardline. Connect hard line directly to the slave cylinder soft line.

From the picture, you are missing the weather boot and retainer for the shifter.

Quote »****, your right... damnit, are those really important? or can i live with out them[/quote]You mean weather boot? You need it for sure otherwise heat, smell, water and noise will get into the cabin and becomes very annoying.

I have both lithium and multi purpose grease. I used multi purpose grease for all the seals and lithium grease for mechanical parts like release fork, throw out bearing...etc. They are pretty cheap.

I bought a new clutch pedal which was about $40-50, but you can give it a shot of weld just like hijacker did. Problem is... that area is covered with grease, so people overlook it. Bushings are super cheap like a couple of bucks.

You are talking about 'Clevis Pin.' Yes, you can use one from automatic brake pedal. They are same.

This is normal you need to leave that bracket there but cut out the metal around it in the shape of that indent there are 2 long bolts welded to the petal assembly they slide thru there i then you bolt the master cylinder to the petal thru the firewall

Sorry, don't have AIM.

Yeah, dust cover is there. That's 3rd different kind I've seen on s-chassis transmission. I found another missing piece. Where's the driveshaft? Driveshaft from automatic s13 won't work.

I should have bought the bolts from this guy. I got mine from dealership and the longest bell housing bolt was no longer available. You can buy from hardware store, but I doubt the quality.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVWh ... rs...ZWDVW

I think I'll post a complete list of 5 speed swap parts in 5 speed swap thread soon.

sweet! ahh i have a non abs 5 speed driveshaft already, i just forgot to put that in the pic!

hmm, how much did a new pedal cost you.. just the pedal? .. im thinking about just going to the dealership and ordering new bellhousing bolts and new pedal plus bushing, spring and all that...

oh and i think im missing the retainer spring to my transmission... where can i find one of those?
