over the winter, my 260z was hard on starting, but it always did start, i figured it was just cold out, now its warmer and it doesnt start at all. i have early round top carbs i was gonna swap in, but i wanted to make sure nothings wrong first..at first i thought i was just out of gas, because the gauge shows empty, but i put 3 gallons in, still nothing.. it just cranks and cranks.. just yesterday the gas pedal started sticking, and the boot area of the throttle cable at the firewall is pretty much gone. any suggestions on what to do to make this start would help! thanks.

choke cables work fine, i have the filter off and can see the flaps, has spark, and i dont know how to check for fuel, but i can definitely smell it.

well, pull the fuel line that goes to the carbs form the pump and see if it pumps gas out

also check for fouled plugs

okay, i got it started, and i drove it around for a few miles. How weak is a stock clutch? I cant shift from 1st to 2nd at anything higher than 3500rpms or so without the car bogging hardcore seems like clutch doesnt catch at all, i tried burning a little rubber, and i just burnt clutch instead. Clutch, slave, and master are all less than 2000 miles. is a stock clutch for these cars really that weak or do i have another problem on my hands?

you have a problem, the easy upgrade is fluwheel and clutch from a 280ZXT, it's 20 mm larger and has more clamping force, but you clearly have a problem, and there are upgraded clutches and flywheels available fro the stock diameter as well, ultrarev.com has some of the best deals I found, is the clutch fork fully returning? have you tried adjusting the clevis?

any idea what would cause fuel to mist out from something on the passenger side of the engine? and also once the car warms up, it has a steady idle, but if you give it a rev it will die unless you choke or, or keep the rev steady

yes, a fuel leak either in the fuel lines or the fuel pump, I've had stock fuel lines develop leaks, better track that sucker down before it finds a spark! that fuel leak is likely keeping you from getting enough fuel

no more misting fuel. i ran into another problem.. i finished moving, and came back to my house late to move my z to my new house. it fired right up, so i went inside to let it warm up a sec. i came back out and it died. it would only start back up if i use carb cleaner, and just long enough to die out again. this is really stressing me out, because i have to move it by the 30th gas gauge shows about 15% gas id say so i dont think im out of gas, any suggestions?

are the pistons in the carbs able to move freely up and down? is there fuel in the float bowls? needle valves on the float bowls working and adjusted properly? outlet hole int he bottom of the fuel boel clean and free fo debris (this is actually pretty common issue)? are the jets adjusted properly on the bottom of the carbs? and it certainly won't hurt to add some fuel to the tank, the pickup is not baffeled and might be sucking air, could also be a clogged pickup tube in the tank

replaced fuel pump, and car still doesnt start. It will start for a second if i spray carb cleaner into the carbs, but will immediatly die unless i keep spraying.without carb cleaner it just cranks.

yeah sounds like a fuel problem still. Do you get fuel where the fuel line runs to the carbs? that would rule out the fuel pump. (please becareful of sparks when checking for fuel, maybe disconnect the coil)
