Spark Plugs and the Mighty CA

like the title dont ya.

Just wondering what plugs you guys are running, my car just doesnt seem to like these Iridiums. Ive gone through 2 sets, just keeps fouling them out. My AFR is fine so im sure its just the plugs. I was warned by a couple people this might happen but i had a couple sets still laying around cause i ran the same ones on my stang.

THanks

NGK coppers. Thats what all my friends with turbo cars run. You'll go through them a bit quicker, but they perform well.

What's everyone else running?

I have had the best luck with the NGK iriduims. The coppers have worked well for me when I have run them. I get a little better cold starts and throttle response with the iridiums though.

could be an issue of you running too cold a plug? being that you have done so much I would think you were running stupid cold plugs for the nitrous.

might your timing need a little help?

the I like the Iriduims too.......... you could always try those pluse plugs or w/e they are called. they claim what 11HP gains?

i went out and bought a set of the coppers. Once the diff and coilovers get in there tonight, ill see how it runs tomorrow.

ive got a set of NGK Iridium heat range 7s in there right now (BKR7IEX) and it doesnt seem to like them really well. Itll make a coupkle strong pulls and then fall on its face and sputter like the plugs are fouling out.

I'm running Denso copper plugs right now. Had them for ~15k miles and you all know how my car runs so thats saying something. I have always run copper plugs, and so have my friends. I mean, why the hell not? 15k miles and they were under two bucks each?! Those fancy $15/plug iridium things are just a waste of money.

Also, those plugs were not around when the CA was designed. It was meant to use those NGK copper plugs. Take that into consideration.

I just went into auto zone and asked for plugs for an '88 pulsar. I saw denso on the list and asked for them. I'll get you a part number here in a bit, but currently I don't have a plug wrench.

PFR type NGK platinums. heat range will depend on what boost you are running, octane rating etc.

Too cold of a plug! The BCPR6ES-11s are the way to go for those living under the 400hp mark. I wasn't impressed with the iridiums, so I scrapped some and sold the rest.

I'm been using NGK Iridium 7's for over a year now....and no problems with fouling or anything @ 15 psi on a t25g. I may get some iridium 6's next as the 7's are probably an overkill for my hp level. I think I paid under 7 each from http://www.sparkplugs.com which is a bonus, because I'm still use to paying for 8 plugs on my old "2 plugs per cyl" ca18et.

Also, someone mentioned to use plugs for a ca18de pulsar? Don't know if there is a difference, but I'm pretty sure I'm using spark plug part numbers for a s12 ca18et....as mentioned in the "part number/ cross over" section. I'll have to pull a plug and verify

Are you sure it's the plugs and not a weak ignitor/coilpack/ground?

I've had iridiums(BCPR7EIX-11) in my car for like 3 years now, still runs/drives/starts great.

one of the plugs was ****ed up when i pulled it out this morning, Ive gotta run back to my house to get the title for the car and the rest of the rollcage since i have someone coming to look at it, ill let you knwo for sure, last night it was pullin pretty good untill about 6500 if you rolled into it...

its doing the same thing my SR did with a ****ed up plug... if you STAB it, youll break up by 3500-4000, if you roll into it, itll last longer but still break up

Well, I just pulled my iridiums and they were fouled after two weeks, and one was cracked. I swapped in a set of V-Powers and it is running great again!

Has anyone stopped to think that fouled plugs might not be the fault of the plugs?
Spark plugs are not complex items despite what marketing would have you believe. If you are running the correct heat range plugs with the correct gap, your coils are healthy, your mixture correct and the motor not blowing oil you will not have fouled or damaged plugs, any plugs.
Before damning the plugs and buying $20 a pop superduperwhizbangkryptonite plugs fix the real problem.

CA motor was actually meant to run platinum plugs from the factory.

You appear to be lost, this is the rust section, the flat cap and slippers area is what I think you were looking for!!

That part number isnt available on the USDM NGK website, but the Denso crossover part (K22PB) according to this site: http://www.globaldenso.com/PLU....html
can be found here http://www.helmarparts.com/Sho...K22PB for $1.20 usd each.

Also, it looks like the PFR6A11 (platinum heat range 6, pregapped to 1.1mm) is CA18DE (pulsar NX SE) oem equipment and also used in many other Nissan apps (CA/RB).
http://www.ngk.com/results_fitment.asp?pid=PFR6A11

I tried to find whether or not the CA came with heat range 7 plugs in any OEM form but couldn't find that listed. Maybe the euro version did.
