I had a huge brain fart a couple of weeks ago and as a result have come up with a simple method to remove fuel injectors.

After lubing around the upper seat of the injector with PB Blaster and giving it one twist to loosen it up, I attached a 3/16" diameter piece of rope in a choker hitch around the neck of the injector. I pulled it snug making sure it went under the tabs on either sided of the neck, pulled straight up, and the injector popped out within a few seconds.

I did this on my 90Q changing out #8 FI last week and validated it again today changing out #6 injector. Give it a try next time you have to remove an injector. It works great.

Slick the FI up real good with penetrant or lubricant, give it a couple of spins and try and guide the FI to the center of the opening as you're pulling up on the rope. Hard to explain but the knot is not quite centered over the injector so you need to nudge it to the center as you pull up. It should pop right out.

I'm trying to remove the Number #2 Fuel Injector, and am having a PAIN with it!! I've never done
Side Feed Injectors, the Top Feeds I used to work on I could do in 10 mins! So, I got the two
screws out on the top, and took the top "cap" off the injector. Do I just need to pull
it out now? Do I need to loosen the Fuel Rail? And this Rope Trick, do you have a picture
of how you did it? For now, I've already broken off lots of the plastic around the injector,
including the plug, so now I HAVE to figure out a way to replace it!

All the best,
Vin

The picture disappeared into cyberspace. Here it is again:

With the connector broken off the noose method may not work for you. There are holes in the center of the FI where you can insert pointed objects (big nails) 180 degrees apart and pull straight up.

No need to pull the fuel rail but do squirt lubricant around the upper o-ring and then twist the FI a couple of rotations. It may take 5-10 seconds with a steady pull for it to pop out. Look close at the upper o-ring and you'll see the FI coming out very slowly.
