The topic of how the Rogue is related to the Qashqai (Europe) and the. Dualis (Japan, Australia) has been brought up a few times. This post will consolidate some of that information. The Rogue as we call it has been in development for the past several years. Here is look at how it evolved:

Qashqai (Europe):- Concept vehicle shown in 2004 at the Geneva Motor Show- Unveiled Sept 6, 06 at the Paris Auto Show- Design by Nissan Design Europe- Approx 13" shorter overall than the Rogue.- Variety of engines including 1.6 and 2.0 gasoline (HR & MR series same as Versa and Sentra) and 1.5 and 2.0 diesel.- Based on global 'C' platform

Concept:

Production Qashqai:More at: http://www.nissaneurope-newsbureau.com/

Dualis (Japan, Australia, China):- Launched in May 2007- Similar specs as Dualis

Rogue (North America)- Launched Sept 2007.- Design by Nissan Design America... albeit the basic shape and interior are from Nissan Design Europe.- Same platform as Dualis and Qashqai, length increased by 13", wheelbase increased by 2", width increased slightly, height lowered slightly.

BTW, anybody notice the Auto Climate Control and Nav screen on the Qashqai and Dualis?

Philipa, Thanks for the informative post. Always wondered how the Rogue developed. Thank goodness they didn't bring it to NA with those totally unpronounceable names. As you know, we prefer single syllable names for our vehicles.

The Qashqai is so much better looking in my opinion. Really wish we could buy that here. Would like to downsize from the Murano to the Qashqai/Dualis.

Essentially the Rogue is the same vehicle as the Dualis/Qashqai. The main difference being the drivetrain and exterior body panels. Everything else 'under the skin' is the same, ie suspension, most of the interior, etc.

The only thing I really like about Qashqai is they have a newer version "Qashqai+2". When I was searching for a car to buy, the Mitsubishi Outlander and Dodge Journey both have seven seat options. I am sure many people want to buy extra two seat for the same same/similar price.

Have you seen the 3rd row seat? Suitable only for passengers that have no legs, under 5ft. tall and can contort like a gymnast!

I wouldn't even put my dog back there!

Hey guys, anyone know if the 5 speed drivetrain from the Japanese Qashqai would fit on our American Rogue?
