One of the factors they consider in the study of Global Warming is the health of the glaciers. Recently, the UN published a study of several glaciers and found the evidence of their melting.

Glaciers are shrinking at record rates and many could disappear within decades, the U.N. Environment Program said Sunday.

Scientists say warming would have a huge affect on India where the Himalayas feeds its rivers.

Scientists measuring the health of almost 30 glaciers around the world found that ice loss reached record levels in 2006, the U.N. agency said.

UNEP warned that further ice loss could have dramatic consequences particularly in India, whose rivers are fed by Himalayan glaciers.

The west coast of North America, which gets much of its water from glaciers in mountain ranges such as the Rockies and Sierra Nevada, also would be affected, it said.On average, the glaciers shrank by 4.9 feet in 2006, the most recent year for which data are available.

The most severe loss was recorded at Norway's Breidalblikkbrea glacier, which shrank 10.2 feet in 2006, while Chile's Echaurren Norte glacier was the only one to grow slightly thicker.

Haeberli said glaciers lost an average of about a foot of ice a year between 1980 and 1999. But since the turn of the millennium the average loss has increased to about 20 inches.

If I understand my brother in law (works at NOAA) correctly, the two main green house gases that environmentalist won't talk about.Water Vapor- the largest green house gas.Methane- Pretty vicious green house gas that is mainly released into the atmosphere by rice production. Of course we can ask the hungry to give up their food, so we will ask everyone else to ditch their cars, electricity and everything else the developing nations have. Makes me pine for the good old days when everyone was decrying the coming ice age.

The largest human-related methane emissions come from the decomposition of wastes in landfills, followed closely by livestock farts and manure.

Those both pale in comparison to the large amounts spewed by volcanic eruptions and suboceanic fissures.

What is funny is that I was watching something on History Channel (yesterday) and they were talking about the movement of the tectonic plates and the emission of Methane. Good catch...

I had a very wise professor in a climatology course in college. He said that the only thing that is ever constant when it comes to weather is that it's always changing.

Sure, we have global warming. Sure we are probably contributing to that trend. But we are also supposed to be heading into another ice age. So who knows.

The only thing we know is that the weather will always change.

Here's something interesting... Most of the record lows as well as snowfall totals posted in our country came in the mid 1880's. This is due to the eruption of Krakatoa in Indonesia. "In the year following the eruption, average global temperatures fell by as much as 1.2 degrees Celsius. Weather patterns continued to be chaotic for years, and temperatures did not return to normal until 1888."

It took one single volcanic eruption to affect the earth's climate by more than 1.2 degrees on average and for a period of more than 5 years.

Think that won't happen again? It's taken how many years for the human race to affect a miniscule climate change?

I think that 98%+ of global warming is natural. Like Hitman and Eikon have said, 1 good sized volcanic eruption spews more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than we put it in it over the course of many years. All the ash that is spewed by a Krakatoa size eruption also causes a "nuclear winter" and cools the Earth bc it blocks out some of the sunlight. Also, our weather records are what ~125 years worth of records? I bet most of those come from America and Europe, and I bet they are not the most reliable/accurate records until about 60 or so years ago. And this is the basis for the entire world? 60 yrs, or even 125 yrs, are nothing on the geological scale. I don't think there's anything wrong with being environmentally conscious, but don't go overboard just bc you think humanity is bigger than it really is and is effecting change on the Earth's climate and/or bc you think the rich countries should suffer so the poorer ones can get money. Man-made Global Warning is a false conclusion based upon limited and unreliable evidence IMHO. This includes testimony from many scientists whose fields are outside of the required knowledge base area, such as biologists and geneticists.

I would say anything that man has to do with Global Warming is a bit less than the 2% you give it credit. As far as more accurate temperatures today, that is not necessarily true either as some of the weather stations are sitting in the middle of parking lots, on top of tar-covered roofs and by air conditioning units. Some of these are mentioned in the numerous videos I linked.

This reminds me of something that my Dad told me a while back. He said that back when he was my age then they were talking about how the next ice age would be coming any time now...Now they are saying that the globe is getting warmer and is going to cover us all with water
