Cops are on a power trip. They learn how to be d!ck in police academy (although some were professional d!ck beforehand). They teach them to be firm and control situations. If you are defensive, then it keeps them more safe. Thats the logic anyways.

There are 2 ways, IMO, to handle cops. Be super courteous and nice, or be mad. Don't let them intimidate you though.

No park might be okay, but no drive might be a problem if you're planning on driving it. Does that little unlock thing on the trans do any good? Can you climb under the car and see what if anything is bent?

WOW!! So glad to hear that you aren't injured. That really sucks. I know how sick to my stomach I would feel if my four-wheeled baby got smacked. I'd be willing to bet that the cops are pretty quick to judge when the accident is driver vs parked car... but who knows what their mentality was at the time. Good that you remained calm through it though.

been there and done that last sept. we had rain for the first time in weeks and wouldn't ya know i would hit the only spot of oil on the road & the cops in KY are exactly the same. F'in state trooper didn't even want to get the info from the guy I nearly hit. when he saw the personal plate he said "oh, your one of those people" i played nice but man i really wanted to tell him off. Good news is that it feels awesome to get back in the G once its fixed.

Glad to see that you're okay and keep your head up about the insurance that may occur... just make sure that they cover everything for you...

The cop actually gave you heat about your pocket/utility knife???? Is is a fixed blade? Usually if it is a fixed blade (meaning it does not retract) then they may classify it as a "Weapon". If you are going to carry a knife, then you may want to consider a CCW for New York... http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws/nyc.aspx you obviously can't carry in the city, but this permit will cover you from knives to firearms. Remember that you have a RIGHT to bear arms for personal protection.

Damn glad I don't live in New York... I had a fender bender about a year ago and I was carrying my .45 cal semi-auto handgun on me... I showed the cop my license and he asked me if I had a gun... I said yes and he calmly asked me where it was... I told him that it was on my hip in the holster... All he did was ask me to clear the gun of any ammunition and then he asked me if I would mind if he ran the serial numbers for any stolen hits on his computer. I gladly obliged and he handed me the gun back and complimented me on how well I took care of it. I LOVE ARIZONA!

I'm pretty sure as long as the blade is 3" or less in length you can conceal it. I carry a K-bar lock blade 99% of the time.

For all the concealed carry permits in Phoenix you'd think our crime rate would be lower?

I believe you are correct about the length of the blade as determining it's "weapon" status... I carry a Beretta serrated blade as well in my pocket and when the cop asked if I had any other weapons on me after I handed him my pistol, I told him about the knife and he said "We don't count that as a weapon".

The key is RESPECT! If you come off disrespectful to a police officer (and I'm not saying that the original poster did) they're going to nail you for everything they can. If you respect the officer and show him that you mean no ill will, then they will more than likely treat you the same way.

Crime rates in my neck of the woods are at an all time low, although I kind of live in the sticks...

Police like me for some reason.... my wife has been in the truck with me when I've been stopped and giving a verbal warning before and the officer is more interested in hearing about my mods then writting a ticket.

The best was when we got stopped in Why, Arizona on the way to Mexico. The four police officer gave me high fives when they finished checking out my truck

Now you know that you were going to get a reply from a cop eventually ... here it is. Illegal search? Doubt it. I can pat you down all day long for "my safety". If I find what I believe is a weapon, congrats, I'm going to get it. I'm not saying the guy might have been a bit overzelous, sounds like it. I'd held it until we were done with our business and gave it back. I'm more of the gwoods and ArizonaG35 kinda guy. I'll check it ... and hold it until we're done. Then give it back.

Weed?? OK, kinda sucks... but wait a minute, let me get this right. "i think i drove over an oil spill and all of a sudden i lost control of the vehicle and hit a parked car...". 'Scuse me? It was raining heavily and hit an oil spill? Yea, I'm sniffin' around too ... dope, alcohol, whatever. How about too fast for conditions, Hydro-plane, lost control and hit a parked car. He was a d!ck for not checking you out medically though.

Don't think I'm slammin' ya, I'm not. I hate to see so much damage to a nice car ... but comon... an oil slick? sniff ... sniff ...

Yerv,You may want to reconsider the word HATE... The G35 forum is pretty intolerant of hatred towards other members. I realize you are a kid, but we will not permit hate around here.

Besides, when you're teenage mouth gets your butt into a sling that it can't get out of... guess who the first person you are going to call is... that's right, the Police.

I'm not a cop, but you have to respect what the man does for a living. He (impliedconsent) is obviously a representative of our armed forces as well so you better pipe down the hatered or

I'm with ImpliedConsent. If a cop thinks he smells something--weed, alcohol, whatever--he has reason to do a search or test you out. The major question is, how long had it been raining?

You know what gets me is that 95% of cops are great just like 95% of the rest of the people in the U.S. Problem is that most of the time when you deal with a cop its because a) something has happened to you that you think should not have and its now the cops fault. i.e. you were speeding but so was everyone else and the d!ck of a cop gives you a ticket. b) your a victim of a crime and the cop is to blame not the *** that did it to you. i.e. stolen car, burglary, etc. or c) the cop ends up helping as much as he can but so what, thats his job.

Not to mention risking their lives with criminals who belong behind bars. It's a pretty rough profession.

I do think he should have checked on your safety first.

try being in the back of a cop car beat up by 3 cops and them laughing n saying that i attacked them when all i did was turn around when he was taking me to the car they told the other cops that i swung at them when i didn't. then lets see your view of cops. im not saying it because of speeding tickets
