  new guy with a 620

hey guys! i was lured over here by a friend of mine with a 240. i just picked up a 620 that needs a little work but runs like a champ. from what i can tell it has 241,000 miles on ti, leaks a little oil and needs some floor pan work. you'll understand why in the pics. i am planning on just getting it running right and maybe doing some custom stuff but not a lot. well without further hesitation heres pics.

Dodges, Dubs, Ford, Chevy and now a Datsun. i am a glutton for punishment.

I have seen the way of the trunk, and it is good!

well today was productive. i replaced the rad cap so HOPEFULLY it will stop overheating, pulled the grille (which was a ROYAL PITA!) fixed the passenger side headlight low beam for now, pulled the cluster and heater controls and test fitted my 2 knobber Sony tape deck. i also found out where my fiber optic light goes for the wiper knob. so all in all i got alot accomplished. oh i also figured out why my wipers suck. the bushing that goes onto the drive pivot is missing. so they barely work. i also removed the front bumper as it was fubared. here are he 2 pics i was able to take before my camera batteries died

Oh yeah, we have a lot of work to do. The part that really pisses me off about the truck is the front end, but then again it's hard as **** to find a 620 without a slightly smushed front.

Mark, nsrZ32 has a BADASS 521 you should check out.

yeah i know. but hey i had an idea. L20-T? :D

as for the rest of it i found the heater blower works, also the radio is in and works. The benz foglight is in on the passenger side. The dash is back together and the hazzard flashers now work as well. all thats left now is to finish the wiring on the heater fan and figure out where i am getting water inside. drivers side is dry but the passenger side is wet.

well the heater is working now but only on the high setting. could be a bad switch or i have a wire crossed somewhere. nothing big. i also found out where my water leak is INSIDE the truck. passenger side door vapor barrier is shot. the plastic is decent but the glue they used in 73 has let loose. no biggie. i have done these before on VWs so its not hard to do. now for a tuneup, radiator, and new hoses and this beast will be somewhat legal again.

here are some pics that i took today. havent gotten much else done but we, lofapoo and i, got the tail lights working, fixed the wipers, removed the rear bumper and lowered the front end a bit. all in all a good bit of work for one day. i also found out why my reverse lights dont work. one of the switch wires was cut and the other unplugged. time for a new switch. now to figure out my plate light and all will be good to go.

so here are the pics!

Mmm, rusty dirt covered in PB Blaster tastes sooo good.

Wish I could make it down south this weekend, but unfortunately I'm stuck heading up north

And the weekend after that is the big one! You got a lot of work to do, boy. I can come over after work some days to lend a hand, drop a line.

well i wasn't able to get everything i needed but i did get some parts that i can use. heater box is now fully clipped in place, hood has been replaced with a PERFECT one as has the front bumper, i fixed the core support where it was damaged from the front bumper, replaced the passenger rear side marker and am trying to figure out how to mount my good tail light as the mounting studs are broken. i also got a radiator BUT it doesn't fit. its to wide. so i am working on finding another one if i can. i have also traded my weber carb for a few other peices i am needing. so hopefully i can figure out how to get this thing running right so i can drive ti soon.

Speaking of parts. Do you have any access to 521 parts? My truck needs some stuff bad and it seems all of them are in the northwest and not in my area.

You should see what this guy means by parts hoard.

You can't walk five feet without stepping on a VW or Mopar part, or take a dump anywhere on his property without a car part staring at you.

Now there's more and more Datsun parts stacking up, and he's only had the damn thing a few weeks.

God.

Damn.

Packrat.

so yesterday i went down to Portland adn got some parts in trade for a carb that i had bought but didn't want to adapt into my truck. i got a valance panel, cowl panel, and a pair of hood hinges. and for a little bit of $$ i also scored a set of new wheels (cheapy Les Schwab wagon wheels painted black), a dash, and a new heater box. i am currently painting the dash since the cracks have been repaired. its going flat black as that way i wont have glare. i have already removed the old dash and i am painting the metal to match the dash pad. hopefully soon i can afford to put a tach in here as well so i know what kind of damage i am doing.

the list of parts i still need are.....

radiator (still)
parking brake cables
temp switch for the 2nd set of points or an EI conversion
drop blocks (3 inch)
heater hoses
tune up stuffs
fuel line from filter to fuel pump
rebuild kit for the hitachi carb
new tail lights (amber/red/clear), bumper/tail light housings, and front marker lights (clear\amber)
and a bed front.

all in all its not a lot of work just time consuming.

well i got a lot done today. i finally got the passenger tail light installed (fender washers, nuts and zipties! yes it works!), got the plate light working, freshly painted wiper arms installed, and my bucket seats repaired and 3\4 installed. i forgot to get enw nuts for the passenger seat mounting studs so.... tomorrow those will be totally installed. i also drilled a small drain hole in the passenger floor board so i can drain the water from teh leaky door seals and vapor barrior. here are some pics of the work i did today.

Stock exhaust manifold, half of a stripped intake, timing cover, accessory brackets, stuff like that. I still have two boxes full of SOHC parts lol

rebuild the spare Hitachi carb

lube the chassis
adjust the rear brakes
rust repair for the drivers floor and some POR-15

install or replace.....

install and wire in my Benzo fog lights (inner lights) with relays

Sounds kinda like the laundry list of stuff I have for my truck. Also, where are you picking up drop blocks from? I've been trying to find some 2" blocks with no luck

I believe places such as CSK, Napa, and Autozone can get drop blocks. I remember Mark telling me he found some 3" for ~$30 from one of those places.
