One of the chrome wheels from my donor car was in the line of fire from my sprinklers where it was parked for a few months. Anyone have any tricks to clean it up? I've tried the simple green and it doesn't to anything. Maybe CLR or a diluted mix of it?

Suggestions?

Usually after I wash my car and rims, I drive to the local car wash to toss all of the water out from my rims. From that point I use a spray glass cleaners on the wheels with newspaper. Then I buff it out with the microfiber towel to give it the ultimate shine.

Ahh yes I know what your talking about... I think CLR would do the trick well... but is it okay if it gets on the paint?

No paint on these wheels so unless I spaz out and dump the CLR all over the car I should be ok

Thanks for the tips!

All very good tips. I'll keep that in mind when I upgrade my wheels.

What about the OEM alloys? I've been using this NASCAR foaming spray before I pull the car in to the Touchless Wash. I spray each wheel thoroughly, usually starting with the rear left. By the time I come full circle, the first wheel that was treated is agitated with a wheel brush and the car wash's green soap solution. I run it all over the tires and take care to get in all the little crannies. I do the same for all the wheels. Then I pull in to the bay and let the rocker panel and tire washers have at it.

I've noticed that it doesn't work completely. I always have to wrap a microfiber around my finger and scrub the vertex. I've almost broken fingers messing with those basketweaves.

Is there anything else that can completely get rid of the brake dust?

Handwashing car at home does a much better job than the touchless automatic, which never really cleans well and leaves a film of dirt remaining on paint and glass { notice how your windsheild is still filthy in the sun except where the wipers sweep the glass} this same amount of crap is also left on all painted surfaces--why you NEVER towel dry after one of these washes,it just grinds the dirt into the paint and leaves thousands of fine micro-scratches in paint which must be machine polished to remove

I've done the handwashing bit, but I always never get a result.I bought Automotive soap but it doesn't get sudsy like it does in the movies. Just slippery water. I put it on the car, and by the time that I'm done the back, the front has gotten all dry and nasty looking.

Plus with the current season, outdoor handwashing isn't conducive to one's health. I used to use a "Waterless Wash" that I had for my Jeep (White) on the Q after I got it, but I've run out. It's like this sort of spray on carnuba wax that you let haze and then buff. It works on paint and glass. I thought it was great until reading on the Autotopia board told me otherwise.

When the weather gets warmer, I'm going to just have the car professionally detailed. Engine bay and all. That will set my platform and I'll keep it that way.
