Love it...

I had a 08 G5 for a rental this year. And I hated it. But the G8 on the other hand is something i'd sport.

I've read that American cars have made leaps in quality but the public still refuses to believe they are equal in quality to an Asian cars. GM misses the boat for other little reasons, like no spare tires standard on their cars, they are optional. Who the crap wants a flat without a spare?

I was interested in the Holden Ute that they will be importing as the G8 ST. They will be releasing it but only with a 6 +/- liter V8.

A 270 HP 6 would have been plenty for me and I might have looked at it, but with 350+/- HP, I'm not even bothering to.

I have loved this car since it was announced that they're bringing it over. I'm going to drive one asap.

.
It's hard to get too excited about a car review when there's a big banner ad for that very car right above the article.

GM's last attempt at a GTO was a disappointment I'll reserve judgement on the new G8 GT until I test drive one.

I like it. I'd rock it as a family car.

Lamborghini owners. They don't come with spares and I believe it was the CEO that said "Lamborghini owners don't change tires" all condecending like.

That's because every nail, screwdriver, sharp object, etc. on the road is waiting patiently to flatten my tires. (I'm not kidding)

Another big useless V8 car? Do the big 3 think we are all a bunch of piguh truh driving rednecks? I'm not saying this car isn't nice but at the end of the day who's really going to buy this thing. To be driving a big gas guzzling car I rather just buy a Tahoe(atleast it has more space). Gas peaked $3.59 for regular here in south Florida since that oil refinery caught fire. I think this car will catch on at the beginning but after a year or 2 will just fade away.

I'd rock it. I've been saying that since it was announced. Literally the only reasons I wouldn't grab it when I get out of school are gas prices and I want something less practical (i.e. 2 seats) til kiddy time.

Just because someone may like a big V8 car does NOT mean said person is a redneck. I LOVE big cars, and I like FAST big cars, which typically means V8. And I'm not exactly what one would describe as a redneck.

Highly impressive. I'm still not totally sold on the rear, but if it comes in manual it'll be getting serious consideration after Basic.

I'm sure this G8 will also get in the 24mpg range on the Fwy too. Considering the RPM's are only hitting 2k for 80mph, at 65 you're looking at around 1600-1700rpms.

In Texas and much of California, 60% of the cars on the road are 1/2 ton or bigger trucks getting less than 20mpg. I don't think as many people care about their fuel economy.

Dont' like the steering wheel, and hoping they have a manual transmission option since this would make a great family car.

It looks pretty squared away to me. No redneck there at all.

Most newer BMW M series cars as well. Not even room for an optional one.

Freakin badass, but why the hell would they not offer it in a manual transmission? Finally fun cars are starting to make a re-appearence, but what about fun transmissions?

Corvettes come with runflats only. Might I add they actually do a good job of holding up too(though they ride and handle like crap).

High powered brand new performance cars are usually for people who can afford to have some fun. Not everyone is poor, and gas isn't a top concern for all drivers.

Sorry, there's no SR20 option.

It's a $30k E39 M5 that comes with a 100k warranty.

Give it a 6MT and it's the best vehicle sold in America.

I was under the impression that they were going to offer it with a 6mt. When did that change?

dang i'm late to the thread.

first off, it will be offered in manual with a 6 speed come sometime in 2009. secondly to mr. bubba, i'd love to know how you thought the GTO was a disappointment. if you are talking about it's piss poor sales, I totally agree but as a car/vehicle, it's definitely a dream car to most car enthusiasts.

as for the spare tire comment, i'm not sure where it came from but i'm pretty sure the G8 will be offered with a spare tire. it won't be sporting run flats so that would be weird if it didn't come with one.

and last but not least, the fellow south floridian. you obviously have never driven an LS2 powered car so if you have, you would know that they get ALOT more mileage than any 240 on this board especially with highway driving. when i am cruising at 50 mph, my rpms are at about 1100-1200 rpms.............need i go on?

anyways, don't let the big v-8 scare you if your into fuel economy. these things are NOT made to get you a prius level of gas economy so if that's what you love, go get a TDI powered VW or some sort of hybrid vehicle. as jesda put, gas is not a main concern for MANY people when it comes to buying a car.

All SR20's and KA's get 60mpg on the fwy and 30mpg in the city didn't you know?

Truth be told my 01' C5 got identical gas mileage as my stock S14 did with premium fuel. I was like 20mpg daily, 27-28mpg freeway.

Both were sluggomatics, but which one do you think was more fun to drive?

I never called anyone here a redneck(please reread)I'm just saying that with all the eco friendly propaganda you see and hear on TV and radio and GM stuffing the Volt down our throats in magazines, I ask myself why now? Does the U.S. need another "big car"? Or is GM just trying to take a bite of what Chrysler did 3 years ago? It's non-innovative decisions like these that have put GM where they are now. We are talking about this captive import because of good marketing, not because its something new. If I was interested in a large car I'd wait for the Hyundai.

I don't see why everyone's getting all butt hurt about what Metaru said and take things out of context... what he was getting at was true.

The article kind of annoys me how they talk about GM doing something new by paying attention to details and building the car very well and the comments about it not being 'Sunfiresque' when it's blatantly clear we are getting an "imported" American car. That's why it's bad ***, the Euro and Austrailian markets appear to have better taste and wants than we do in a vehicle. Even in the fuel economy departments, Opel/Vauxhall and Ford have better and/or smaller vehicles than what we get. It's what their markets demand, and IMO, I think Americans should be getting some of those cars here now (and not an effin Daewoo with a Chevy badged slapped on it either). Another muscle car --as cool as it is--is only going to hurt GM IMO. They should have done this a while ago.
