Backstory: one day me and my dad were sitting watching formual D on espn, and i was explaining things to him and i could tell he was getting into it, which is a big deal cause he his a old school muscle fan for life. (search for nicos muscle car thread and you will see what i mean.) all the sudden he got quiet and then asked, "whats it take to build one of them little bastards?" so i explained things very clearly and slowly to him and we started talking about doing a father son build, ya know, bonding. so a few weeks go by and then one day out of the blue he calls me and says, "were building one of those drifters, i found a couple cars and we are picking them up this weekend." so at this point i was stoked! i had always wanted to do a build but could never do it on my own, but now i have the help of my dad that has been a mechanic his whole life and owns his own shop with a lift, alignment maching, and all the nesecary tools. my father also has a lot of connections, more on that later.

Flash forward to a week ago:we picked up the cars, we bought one from my friend for 300 as pretty much a roller, its a 1991 240sx hatch, black. just like my daily 240.

the other car is a 1993 240sx SE coupe, red. this one we got for free from the local junk yard, its in great shape except for the front end. the kid who owned it hit a fire hydrant with it and it pwned the hell out of him, he sheared the whole hydrant off at the base. this is the car we will be building, the other is a parts car.

pics:

the first day we got the cars we stripped both and got all of the bent front sheet metal off of the red one. then we dropped the sub frame from the black car, put in all hyperflex bushings and put it under the red car.

flash forward to today:today we welded the diff and installed 5 lug hubs on the rear of the red car and bolted the subframe back tightly underneath the car. we scored the hubs from the local junkyard for 60 bucks

i will keep this thread updated best i can and answer any questions anyone might have. i will add a list of planned upgrades later and keep everyone who wants to be in the loop! thanks, TJG

what the hell? dude im stoked that your into it but everyone would be greatful if you didnt type like you are retarded.

and about the sunroof, im using the coupe for the actual car and i dont wanna have a plug made for the sunroof hole because the one thats in it now is in great shape, so sorry on that one.

also, keep an eye out in the classy's for parts, especially interior stuff cause i got lots and i will be making a thread in there once i finish my inventory and get pics of everything sorted out.

Stupid question, you can see it ISNT in good condition from the pictures.

The build looks like it's going to be amazing. My dad would never go for that kind of thing. He pretty much hates cars in general.

actually, its just dirt on the bumper, there is no cracks or anything, it was sitting in the junkyard in mud with no wheels so its super dirty but its all there

I thought that the coupe was the parts car because you said it came from the junkyard and all the 240's I've seen in the junkyards have been seriously pwned.

Damn, looks like fun. You guys just don't want another hatch? But being that you have the means you might as well build the sweet coupe. GL

the hatch is damaged right where the door attaches to the frame on the driver side. so we talked to a few body shops and they said its one of the hardest spots to pull around to make it straight. so we opted to build the coupe, i kinda wanted one of each anyway

the wheels are the same ones in my sig, i have my winter tires and wheels on right now and we needed something to roll the car around on so we just threw those on. they are konig rewinds 16x7 +40 i know its a horrible offset but what can ya do, it was my first set of wheels.

and about the RB, we were actually throwing around the idea of an LSx later on down the road.. i told ya he was a muscle car guy!
