Is it possible to set timing without removing the head again? I forgot to mark the chain and cams. Can i set it at TDC and then position the #1 pistons cams to face away from each other at a slight angle? Anyone have pictures of how the cams are supposed to look like?

Did you already disassemble the cams and chain? If so, just be careful not to get off a tooth or 3. It's very easy when there are no markings to go by. You can try to count the teeth between the top two cam gear marks (11 teeth counting the links that mate up with the gear marks). But if you're off with the sprocket gear, both cams will be off.

You can pull the front cover, but if you do that, you will need to pull the upper oil pan as well so you can reseal it properly. Pulling the front cover breaks the seal of the oil pan and you'll never get it to not leak if you don't reseal it properly.

When i did my hg i pulled the cams out but left the sprockets on (chain was never taken apart). Is it possible for the chain to fall off the crank sprocket? i was reading the DIY head removal and one guy said its not? So can i just set it at tdc and make sure those 2 silver links are in 10 and 12 o'clock and then match them up with the marks on the cams?

Anything is possible. When I was assembling my motor, the chain drooped and got a link off the crank sprocket. I had the front cover off and caught it and fixed it. The best advice I can give you is to either pull the front cover off to verify. You can put it back together the way it sits, but don't get too upset if it is really one tooth off.

yes you can -Make sure #1 piston is on TDC second mark from the left -first lobes are facing away and last lobes facing each other and identical -chain like in pic above with the 11 outer links but when I do mine there is not much slack in the middle like in pic. just make sure the cam lobes are like I said before. -I done both my cars (s13&s14 SR's) like this with no problems but follows my instructions at own risk.

ok i think i figured it out but when i was tightening the exh cam it must have been at a slight angle and my cam snapped in half. So does anyone have an extra exh cam for s14 sr i think its the same as s13 sr?

Or should i just upgrade?

if your gonna upgrade you should pull the front cover off and make sure everything is lined up correctly
