Hey guys,

My engine failed due to chain guides months ago, I have since bought a 94 q45 engine and had my mechanic put it in.... however... its still not (working)

He asked me to find out if anyone has any experience with swapping engines from other years. He has a few very important questions to ask someone of knowledge/experience, swapping parts/ connectors etc.

If someone would be kind enough to offer some help please send an e-mail with your phone number with best time to call, and I would forward that information to my mechanic... that way he can get things straight.

[email protected]

appreciate it! I will offer a cash gift if someone can give information leading to me getting my Q Back!!!

It's tricky, as you're discovering - harnesses are different. There are a couple guys who've done it. Here's an old thread with a couple email addys:

help 94 JDM engine Q45, camshaft position sensor to 90 Q45 wiring

Thank you for the links.

Would anyone have a phone number of someone who would know how to explain this to a mechanic??? that would be absolutely ideal, as i'm not even sure if my mechanic knows how to use the internet

Thanks in Advance!

I hate to say it but it sounds like he may be over his head... He may be very good and nuts and bolts, but not so great at the electrical end of modern (OK Semi-modern in this case) cars.

Does he have access to the FSM for your car? If so, you might download a copy of the 94 FSM at http://www.nicoclub.com/fsm/q45 and let him compare the differences.... I'm not sure that it's as easy as telling him "hook the blue wire to the red one on the new connector" - and I don't know that enough people have done this to have documented a step x step process.

Install a properly selected and rehabilitated 1990-1993 take out.

Going the later route is tough, even for a well vested technician. A "mechanic" probably has little chance of success.

He knows what hes doing for the swap, but there is a few kinks in the wiring etc needs to be worked out.

I would love if someone on here would talk one-on-one with him about the swap. (infiniti mechanics would be a plus) any takers?

Thanks guys(also, are the front timing covers identical on the 94 compared with the 92? anyone know by chance?)

Yes, the timing covers are the same except the top left one by the CAS sensor might be a little different. The good thing is that the 1994 doesn't need to have the timing guides replaced which most mechanics seem to screw up. You might have them replace the oil pump chain and make sure to torque the crankshaft bolt to 300 pounds. The 1994-95 uses some different electrical components for the IAC valve and the CAS sensor, etc. These differences should be quite apparent when comparing both engines side by side. What you need to do is splice the different connectors into the wiring harness. You could get these from a junkyard 1994. Good luck, I would never take to a mechanic that hadn't done such a swap before or at least had access to a Nissan Consult.
