How do you install resitor for EGR senor to remove CEL?

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

EGR is out and plugged. I got the CEL and just to confirm, did the diagnosis on the ecu which threw code 35 (kae)

I did a search and most posts were unclear. The only post that provided some details said to cut out the connector from the egr sensor and splice the wires to each end of the resistor. I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to wiring so maybe i missed something?

1/4 watt Resistors

Connector and wires that lead to EGR sensor

I took each end of the resitor and spliced them to each wire and then used black tape

I connected this back into the wiring harness and took off my neg. cable to erase the codes but I still have a CEL. Did i do this right

Bump. I know I'm not the only one who has done this.

I've got the same problem. S14 with cel coming on for egr, because of removal. No one can answer how to wire this up correctly,, so,, those experts care to response, im sure many are waiting.

1st off, solder that resistor in. tape and twisted together wires is a hackjob. how long did u disconnect the negative for? take it off, leave it off overnight, then it should be cleared, or just pull the ecu and clear them using the dial thats built into it

I took your advice and got a solder. I also used a 100k-ohm/ 1/2 watt resistor instead. I plugged the connected back in, turned on the car and the check engine light immediately went away. There was no need to disconnect the negative. Hope this helps anyone in the future who does a search on this.

what do you do with the resistor after you are done and will the car still run propperly and now the the egr valve and the pipe going to the exhaust are gone can the vacume lines on the back of the head go with it or is the for the charcole cannister near the air box? i removed the cannister and caped of the vac lines but havent put the motor back in the car so i still run ok or will lines have to be put back in ? thanks

I just taped the resistor with electrical tape to keep it safe from any dirt/ dust and tucked it in somewhere to keep the wires from moving around in the engine bay.

Yes, you can get get rid of all the vac lines except for the brake booster line, a vac line that runs to the FPR (fuel pressure regulator), and the one from your intake that runs to the back of the intake mani with the AAC/IACV. If you are not worried about emissions and your motor is out, now is the time to do it.

Use this for reference and then do some more searching:zerothread/274166

awesome my motor is out so i will do that emission a not anything that i am worried about here in alabama we don't have any laws or smog checks. which is good for me bad for trees but the vac line on the back of head are ok to toss? and what about the two or three plugs that go into that vac tree type cluster on the rear of head thanks in advance!

sorry to bring up the old topic

Should I be using the 100ohm resistor or 100k ohm resistor?1/4 watt or 1/2 watt?

100k Ohm is 1/2 watt. Go with that and make sure you solder it. It worked for me and no problems since.

I have a few questions about this mod as I need to get my car inspected asap.

1) Is it the line beneath the intake runners that goes to a round temp sensor that is at the bottom of the intake manifold?

2) Once I have the resister in do I connect the harness and everything is plugged up as it was? Meaning the wires that went to that temp sensor are still going to it I'm just putting this resister in the line. Or am I only concerned with shorting out the line that goes to the ECU?

I think that is it but so far I haven't been successful. I'm wondering if I have the wrong line.
