Thought some of you might be interested in this. This was originally made for the corvette, but obviously, it works for almost all cars. Some modifications were made to fit my Altima. Wasn't too bad. Also, the plate originally angled too much so I had to put some foam tape behind the plate to keep it from angling.

Quick Pics:

Plate showing (yes....New City Nissan does indeed suck)

Plate retracted

The folded plate is visible, but it isn't all that bad. Its definitely much better than having 2 holes in the bumper.

I'll have the video up in a bit. I forgot to compress the video I took with my phone and uhh...I think I crashed youtube.

why dont you post your SS# online...the tellers see it when you open a bank account...so everything should be alright

I don't really care about blurring my plates. My stereo isn't of any great value, and everything is already exposed on the outside. The rest is basically stock.

This mount isn't illegal here (well...from the searching I've done...thats what I've found). All the law says is that it needs to be mounted securely. Hell, if mounting the plate with zip ties is okay (which it is), then I don't see why this isn't.

I drive with the plates showing anyways. I just want it retracted for when I wash and wax, and when I take pictures. It becomes a royal pain in the *** to take off the plates all the time.

I am going to see if I can mount a linear actuator on it to make it motorized. I could probably do a "james bond" if I wired it so that it comes out when the ignition is on, and retracts when the ignition is off.

If anyone knows where I can get a linear actuator (about a foot long) for under $50, let me know.

Not taking any sides but how is that relevant? Do you wear your SS# on your shirt when you go out?

Since you took the time to show your concern about my numbers. I decided to cover it up, yes just for you. (but mostly because I wanted to stick it to my dealer)

Nice! And yes, New City does indeed suck! I got my last 3 Nissan's at Tony, and my first one at Pacific, before it became Tony.

That parking lot looks very familiar?! I just can't place it right now.

If ya so worried about your ssn#, go to lifelock.com and stop your cry'in! You can put your ssn# all over the net, and nobody can get any credit but you. I'm sure you have spent $20 on crap that you DIDN'T need...why not spend it on a product that will let you sleep good at night? As far as the plates...it's as easy as following you home, or getting your Aunt to look them up when she goes to work at the DMV! Either way, don't live your life in fear !

ya...sorry. Should have said, "This is for The Boring Aluminum man" or whatever his name is, before I posted. I was serious about the Life lock thing...It's saved my bacon a few times...I'm a cop in CA, and people are always trying to steal our identities. It's a great company, and before you can get any credit, they call you to make sure it's you using the ssn#. Plus, if anyone does manage to get use out of your ssn#, they fix all your sh** for free, AND will cover you up to a MILLION Dollars.

if they'd make it a bit more invisible i'd jump on this. Not so much because i'd drive w/o plates but sometimes when i take pictures to show I'd rather not have to blur the plates, makes the car look ugly. How much did it cost ya?

It actually looks pretty invisible on the corvette and S2k since their bumpers are different shape. I guess it depends on the application, unfortunately, all you have for reference is the corvette, the S2k, and my Altima.

It was $40 on ebay. You gotta keep an eye out through, a lot of the sellers are jacking up the shipping prices for it.

I found the US version of the first one. It runs for $150 or so. I also don't see where that could be mounted. As for the second one, that has existed for a long time and is plain illegal.

As I had mentioned before, its probably better to just put a linear actuator on the one I have now.

I want to mount my license plate about where you have it (on the bottom of the bumper), would i have to get a kit like yours in order to do that or is there any way i can get a stock frame and mount it there ???

You can always make one yourself with sheets of aluminum. I probably would've done that if I had the tools. I probably would've made it a quick detach plate thing instead of a retracting thing.

edit: that thing I have now can take a pretty good beating. I thought I had scraped my plate off one day but it was just fine....nothing dislodged, just my plate cover was scuffed but I don't really care about that thing since its already got a crack on it.
