The 2002 Max has a 6-speed versus your 5-speed, and the gearing is entirely different, The 2002 Max also had 255HP & 246ft/lb torque vs. 190hp & 205ft/lb torque for the 1998. The 98 weighed around 220lbs less than the 2002 and stock wheels for the 2002 SE & GLE were 17" in diameter vs 15" for the 1998.D_roc wrote:just drove a 1998 max was manual and every time i shift it feels like the engine is jumping up and around 3rd gear felt like the car was going to fly, the car is stock and i also drove his 2002 maxima it was manual too it was smooth but didn't felt the the 1998 felt
Well,. how's this for one-upmanship: the 5th Gen I30 Limited had a smidgen more horsepower than either the regular I30 0r I30t, and the 5th Gen Max. I think it was only like 2HP.Av10sguy wrote:Ah just the thread i was looking for. I pulled this from Edmunds.com ". A power sunroof, heated seats and side airbags can be added to any model, while GXE and SE models can be equipped with a new Meridian trim package that includes heated seats with integrated side airbags. I might be wrong but I though the I30Limited was a late 99 MY option to match the 99.5 Maxima SE Limited (got titanium faced gauges instead of the white faces, different badging and titanium colored) which was a quick attempt to get the 99 models to sell better before the 2K redesign came out....dr-rjp wrote:Now I remember. I still to this day think the VQ30DE was underated for hp/tq at least a few examples I have driven.Trav1s wrote:I think the key to all is this is where the powerband sits on the VQ30DE V/S the VQ30DE-K
VQ30DE ---> 190 HP @ 5600 RPM 205 lb/ft @ 4000 RPM
VQ30DE-K --> 222HP @ 6400 RPM 217 lb/ft @ 4000 RPMh

I don't recall what the difference was other than the difference is caused by borrowing parts from the i30 for the AE Maxima. Other than that, the AE was essentially a trim package added to the SE model which included:- titanium 17" wheels (SE wheels in diff color)- Different shift knob (5 spd or auto)- Aluminum pedals (easily added to other models)- Aluminum door sill plates (again, easily added to the other models)- Body kit (front, side and rear skirts)- AE badging- If the AE had the 5 spd manual, they got a LSD and the SE got the open diff)
Sorry friend, you are wrong. The VQ30DE-k NEVER came with the 6 spd manual. The AE got the 5 spd manual with VLSD or the automatic. Trust me on this, shortly after we purchased our 2k the AE cam out and I regretted not waiting for the AE, even an automatic version.
