Ok, its been over a month since i first posted this.. and I really want the homelink/compass rear view mirror, but wish there was someone else here who has had it installed on the Rogue..

I saw a Gentex model on the internet that even has an amber compass display to match the dash lights and stereo

My local dealer said they wont install it if you didnt buy it from Nissan, and they can't even find it in their system if i wanted to order it from them.

I saw all the install video's posted around here and on the net for other cars, but just do not want to risk f'ing up my Rogue myself.

There's gotta be another fellow Rogue owner out here in the same situation as me??

Well Nissan has released said auto-dim/homelink/compass mirror as an accessory for the '07-08 Altima. I would sit tight and see if they release a similar part for the Rogue within the next few mos. Or you could risk it and buy the Altima mirror (Nissan part no 999L1-UT000) and see if you could install it yourself.

Is the display green or orange for the mirror that comes with the SL AWD leather package Rogue?

Is there a part# listed on the back by chance??

The part number listed above is the whole 'kit' including the mirror, wiring harness, and trim piece to cover the wire. IIRC the mirror itself has a different part no.

I have the Rogue SL base model without the outside temp that comes with the premium package. I went to a local 3rd party custom shop called Dealer Options. They ordered and installed the Gentex auto dimming mirror with the outside temp and compass. This one has the green display and does not clash with the orange dash lights in my Rogue. I think it was $350.00 installed. I work out of my Rogue and drive 300 + miles per week. Another plus is the new Gentex mirror is slightly larger than the standard mirror and helps with the blind spots. I have been very impressed so far and highly recomend the Gentex.

This shouldn't be a suprise since Gentex makes the OEM mirrors for Nissan.

The only difference apparently is the Nissan version can be had with an orange display vs. the green one on the aftermarket Gentex. I could not find a photo of the orange display, so here is a photo comparison of the Gentex vs. Nissan OEM accessory mirror (green display).

well, i took the plunge and ordered a NISSAN OEM HOMELINK with AMBER compass.
This is the NEW model of Homelink mirrors, where the compass chip is located in the actual mirror, not at the base of the mount, and the plug is right under the arm mount, not off too the side of the mirror.
You'll also notice the buttons, and lights are slightly different.

I have no idea on where I will have it installed or If i will try myself.

anyone got any suggestions on where to get this thing installed?
thanks!!

does installing this myself void any part of the warranty?

EDIT: got an estimate from a local stereo shop.. they said between $100-120 to install.. that seems kinda high

It is possible that if the install was botched and affected operation of the vehicle, they could have something to say. In my warranty booklet it states:

Quote »
WHAT IS NOT COVERED:
Improper installation of any Nissan approved or aftermarket
accessory or component.

But if you follow the instructions and install it correctly, you should be fine.

OEM nissan accessoies are also covered under a 1 year warranty. But if it wasn't installed by a Nissan dealer, the labour to repair it is not covered.

BTW, the mirror looks like it came with 'Scotchlok' connectors. Arm yourself with the FSM and you should be able to locate the wiring to complete the install.

Good luck!

When you get it done tell us how it turns out -- I really wish I had a compass too, but I didn't want to get leather seating and AWD just for that hehe.

The compass isn't really a big deal for me. The Homelink and auto-dim would be nice though.

I will likely put my $200 towards a Garmin Nuvi 750 GPS instead... thay way I'll get navigation and an MP3 player. Thankfully Nissan gave us line inputs on the basic stereo. :-)

jsellberg, can you look on the back of your mirror and see if the plug connects directly under the mount? or does it connect a little off to the side?

here are some pics of the mirror after install.. I love the amber display that matches the rest of the dash lights.
I can take a daytime shot if anyone wants to see the quality of install work of the dealer. It looks factory installed to me.

I bought it off Ebay form this seller for http://stores.ebay.com/WembleySells

I paid $219 for a "NEW Model" Nissan OEM Homelink/Compass *AMBER* Mirror.
The AMBER ones are harder to find it seems

its very very cool
if anyone has any questions to how it works, just let me know. I would be more than happy to help anyone get it setup

you just need to buy a little bit of X10 hardware (which relays the Homelink Buttons to your lights), and its very inexpensive.
Here is a guide i found on-line which helped me to get started.

Can either of you two give me a part number (an actual Nissan part number)? I was told by my dealer they could get it if I gave them a part number but it would be kind of like getting a replacement part instead of an addon. They also said they would be willing to "attempt" an install for me which, after having them "experiment" while installing my trailer hitch, I'm both a little leary and somewhat game for it. Thanks.

you can have the dealer look up the Altima Homelink/Compass mirrors, as it should be the same one.

or try part# 96321-CMB0A (this was my mirror part#)

or try Altima part#999L1-UT000 (might be older model tho)

I am not sure if you will be able to tell if its an amber or green display though

That really looks SWEET! I just don't know that I'm willing to drop 3 bills for an auto dimming mirror. My last vehicles had them but now that I'm in DC I don't have a garage to get the full benefit of it. Anyhow, on a job well done.

@boooey, can you confirm that CMB0A part as the "official" Nissan part for the Rogue or is that just the Gentex number or even a generic model non-specific Nissan part number?

@jsellberg, any thoughts? You have the factory installed part so I definitely would like to hear from you.

Thanks.

The eBay seller has a cheaper version without the Amber/Blue compass for $134. I'm seriously considering it; maybe after my gov. rebate. Just looking at the mirror area it looks like an easy install. If I do venture forward I think I'll do my own install. I'm betting all the wiring is already there and all I need to do is tap it. I love to tinker, so this would be a fun project for me.

Folks, Gentex mirrors fit just fine using a Gentex base. You need to remove the mirror and not the original base - install the gentex and run wires. Two of the wires already are there in the headliner if you have the vanity mirrors. The prem package cars also have a slick popout access door for the connector and a small slot in the headliner for the wire. You will however need to run two other wires to the fusebox(not a big deal)..
My dimming/Homelink/compass setup cost me 185 on sale and the install was 65.00 since I already had it partially apart and the new mirror on. Yes, I chickened out on removing the pillar cover and headliner to fish the wires. NO other gadjets needed on this setup- just a minor wiring ..I expect Nissan to offer a MIRROR choice as a DIO for most of their lineup in the 2009 season.

FYI- Be sure to get the newest model mirror of this year(gentex). Earlier models work, but, are not as sturdy. IMHO

I'm going to clarify this post with install photos..its aten minute no tools removal and can be a quick hookup too. We are making it sound impossible- it IS way simple. NEW POST SOON WITH PHOTOS

Ok so what you are saying is that you just remove the original plain mirror off its base and then remove the gentex mirror off its base and then just plug in the gentex into the base that is currently stuck on the window?

Will it be possible to wire all 3 wires onto the top or you will need to have the wires going to the fuse box?

update: i see what you mean by it being a tool less removal but i decided to use a flat head screwdriver to apply pressure to the click that stops it from moving. Flew out after numerous attempts as it was kind of confusing to remove.

The nissan rogue already has a built in wedge on the car so when you order you will not need one.

Now i have the mirror on the rogue, going to get it wired by my friend tomorrow. Will have pictures when my pioneer gets installed and dimming.

WIRING HELP.. if you have a Moonroof and the little access panel behind the driver sunshade you are in luck

There is a connector there with the right wiring and its a fidget/fumble to hook up. I found it way ez when I just dropped the map light assy(clips are ez to see- just depress with small screwdriver) This harness then can be completely removed to work on on the bench.

Wiring-
1.Battery HOT Harness color is red..connect to Gentex
yellow.
2.Ignition switchedharness color is pink.. connect to Gentex
red
3. Ground Black/black.

Don't connect RED to RED.. its Wrong,.

The mirror draws under 1A when operating and these feeds are well fuzed and will not cause any electrical problems...IMHO

Im not familiar with the model you have. You may just need to pop off the pillar cover and feed a wire with a pullstring attached from the wire slot just above the mirror to the pillar. Feed the wire from the pillar to the fuse box direct by snaking it under dash and out to box. It's a little hassle but pretty straight foreward. Dont forget to pull all wires at once.

You will however have to disconnect the battery when feeding the wire.
accidental shorting a circuit could ruin your whole day(and week)
Better to reset a clock and radio than have a boo boo discharge of a airbag too!!!

The pillar is that part between the headliner and the dash along the side of the window.. pop it off (its a clip on),run a pull wire(venerable coat hanger) from mirror under headliner till it pooks out at pillar area...pull wires to that point and then fish it down pillar to the fusebox.. find the wiring and tap into it there.. The wiring diagram for the fusebox is on the back of the cover. You want one with "always on" and one that is on when ignition is on. Any ground will do. With patience, it should take a half hour to fish and tap into the wiring. Don't try to pull headliner down more than a finger width to fish the wire. It can be done but getting it back is a pain.
