My concerns with the 20s are: looks for what compromise in drivability? I think while they look great, the ride is going to turn into rock stiff. Handeling will also be decreased over 18" or even 19s.
Problem with 19s is the selection is so damn limited! That's problem number one. Number 2 problem with 19s: have you checked tire cost and availabiltiy? THe cheapest tires availabe start at $170 each, and go up from there, with many in the mid 200s to 300, per tire. Ouch. Even if I found 19s I liked, I would hate that choice every time I had to buy tires (which with my driving would be about every 14 to 18 months), plus I like getting softer rubber (better handeling) with lower tire pressure, 32 psi (improved ride comfort).
18s are going to give the best ride, and offer the best performance, while giving the best selection in both wheels and tires (and maybe run $500 for four decent tires, with lifetime balance and RH warranty via discount tire). As always, its about what you're willing to give up for what you're going to get.
I'm leaning toward 18s with a decent drop to take up the wheel well space, I think that will still look great. I will be doing a lot of research into this throughout January, including measuring spring rates, travel, stock shock valving, bump stop, compression, droop, rebound, travel, roll center, shock mounts, control arm bushings, sway bars, bushings, camber & toe correction issues, dive, squat, etc (that's from my shops web site, don't even know what half of that crap is, but I know were going to measure it, and figure it out for my AC).
I may even have custom shocks made through Bilstein, and have access (through the motorsports shop I am working with) to custom springs with my own custom spring rate (the one we determine to be best after we do the tests for the AC).
THis is one I am not rushing into. Ideally, it would be nice to have that pit crew in the wings, with a set of 18s and 20s, and swap em out, but ya know, there's fantasy, then there's reality. Of course, I have always been resistant to living in reality, so ya never know...
