it's back to stock for my ka-t for my smog check, under the table was gonna cost me 250-300..i'm unemployed at the moment and on xmas break so what better way to save money and keep my self from being bored? The only thing that's a pain in the azz is that I have to cut the mafs wiring that was already soldered and hide the oil feed line lol. I think i'll have to replace my knock sensor (150 for a piece of fvckin rubber? ) but hopefully she doesn't spit out any more codes..this is my justification:

1)under the table: 250 knock sensor still bad -or-2)back to stock: round 60 for a legit smog check locally knock sensor replaced 210ish at worst depending on what I spend on a new/used knock sensor..

in the mean time, anyone have any advice for a replacement knock sensor for cheap? Im gonnaa check the wires to, I heard if they are corroded then it will throw a code..

Anyone have any input/criticism/comments or w/e just post I'll keep you updated on how much this job is a bitck like everyone has been telling me

nonetheless, it's back to boostin after I get my '09 stickers!!

i bought knocksense for my megasquirt from this guy but he also sells used knock sensors for $25 + $8 shipping to the US.http://viatrack.ca/

Boris is a good guy and $33 bucks for a TESTED FUNCTIONAL knock sensor ain't bad.

KA-T won't pass smog? OR fails visual? Tried running some high octane maybe loosen the cat bolts to let some fumes not get there?

i live in ca so it won't pass visual worth a damn...and my check engine light is on of course.

I'm already waste-deep: turbo, mani, dp, full exhaust is off and installed the stock exhaust mani and egr- it wasn't too bad imo.

I have the stock air box assembly and the stock exhaust to install tommorrow then swap out mafs, ecu, injectors. I'm trying to get my dad to pick up some wiring connectors for my mafs wiring for easier access and less soldering..Anyone have any advice on some good exhaust gasket sealant? I noticed I had quite a bit of exhaust leaks when dissassembling, hampering my spool YO! lol

I'm hoping to get this thing smogged by the end of the week!

Hey spooled, you should install some 4 pin electrical connectors on your maf so next time it is just a plug and play type deal. You can get male and female ends from McMaster Carr or Grainger, or most electrical supply shops. They make some really good ones that are water tight and won't vibrate loose. Good luck with your emiss test.Did any body ever hear anymore about the BMW knock sensor?I've been so busy that I forgot to check on it.

well i think the sensor is bad so i'm pretty sure the ecu just retards the timing a bit more as a safeguard. thanks for the link bro, 62.79 not bad for a new knock sensor!

Mounted the whole stock exhaust system, and assembled the whole air box and intake piping. All I have to do now is swap out injectors, ecu, mafs harness, and replace some vac. lines that were tapped into for bov, etc. I think the hardest part will be the knock sensor replacement since it's under the intake runners

Alum will fail under the heat for sure. Stick with a normal type gasket, they work great.

yes sir, so I bought this stuff:thanks florida240sx

I don't know if I'm trippin but i think I only saw one wire going to my knock sensor, isn't there supposed to be two? Perhaps I need a knock sensor sub harness if one of the wires got burnt/corroded off? It's the red wiring clip:Everything's coming along just need to do the minors: hook up vac. lines, mafs, install stock injectors (got some nice allen head screws for those ) and plug the oil feed line with a cap of some sort .

Only thing that might be a pita is the knock sensor deal whether I have to replace the sensor or the harness..or BOTH?!! idk but we'll see if I have a check engine light with the stock ecu..

Damn man, that is a lot of work for smog shiz. I think an engine swap would have been easier!lolI'm thankful I don't have to go through inspections. I live in the third fastest growing county in the nation, so it might not be too long before they start it though.Till then, fluck the environment! I'm just kidding all you tree huggers. I meant make love to the environment.

yeah i don't have a spare ka laying around tho, but it's actually not that bad if you know where everything goes..I'd say the exhaust took me about 3 hrs and the whole plastic intake assembly took another 2 hrs..some of that time just looking for parts lol but yeah, global warming is bullshyt, pretty soon we won't be able to fart cuz the carbon dioxide's gonna make the sun explode or some crap

I'm looking on the bright side, while my turbo's off I can inspect it for exhaust leaks and I just finished re-sealing up the dp, wg and what not just polishing up a few things here and there..it's only been a few days and I already miss my boost

anyone have any input on my knock sensor? do you guys have two wires in the pic where i only have one?

lol, same here

a little more progress: hooked up all appropriate vac. lines blah blah blah (the easy stuff) and got the injectors in they are WAY easier to install/remove w/ allen screws and look better imo

I also took my knock sensor out but looked perfect! Then I remember that I never had a check engine light with the stock ecu before the turbo so and with A LOT of patience, I just popped it back in at my own risk.^this thing looked fresh, I just couldn't replace it without knowing if the stock ecu would throw a code or not..

Ok so i just started her up and she runs fine and NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT! , only thing i have to do now is the 3-port weatherpack for the mafs wiring which i'll probably buy from ebay..then i'll slap the stock hubcaps on to make it a low-profile grandma 240 for fun i'll try and get more pics also

o yeah and in case anyone was wondering, the knock sensor only has one wire going to it so the pic above shows nothing wrong with the sensor.
