I have been doing a bunch of searching and can't find an answer. I recently have found a major fuel leak under the plenum after the AC started stinking like gas. It is a consistent stream coming from one of the fuel lines under there. So here is my question: Is there any way to fix that leak without taking the Plenum off and replacing all the other hoses under there also? Also if anyone has any pics of where the leak usually comes from that would be nice.

No.

Get the fuel hose from Joe and don't drive.

Search should have revealed several posts. Now check on the underplenum hose job including KS, harness, and consider plugs and VC gaskets to save on labor.

There were several posts on the matter but none of them had pictures or information to answer my question.

I read the Plenum removal thread and I guess you don't want to remove it without doing all the hoses under there also right?

What do you think it is going to cost to do the whole hose job?

DIY? Including VC gaskets, $600-$800, not including heater and radiator hoses.

Looks like my car is totaled

I think I'll pass on the full hose job for now and just replace the fuel hose that is leaking.

Jo lists the kit for 90-93 at $984 including all under-plenum hoses {rad. & heater hoses extra},knockers,KS & FI harnesses,runner gaskets Hurry and order now and get an additional 5% discount !!!! Also add to the above the gaskets for throttle body,aac valve,and egr valve....and silicone gasket maker and plugs if you are going to do covers and plugs at the same time to save on labor....while you got all those parts off,it is easy to do oxygen sensors,only $100 for the pair from sparkplugs.com{$300 from Joe-ouch}

Labor should be 10-12 hours for all above items if you dont want to experiment on your own!

I'd be willing to bet it's the hose that connects from the fuel pressure regulator to the hard line leading to the fuel filter. Get a flashlight and check for a puddle of fuel at the very back of the valley. The hose is just a short 2-3 inches and sits sorta vertically. Usually, you can barely get to it with an angled phillips to tighten the clamps a little - probably won't solve the problem though. The hose material has shrunk and just won't seat properly.

If your hoses are brittle, they'll break when you try to mess with the plenum, and then you have to do the entire job. If they're soft enough, you can just unbolt and lift the plenum to get at the leaky fuel hose(s). You need to have plenum gaskets on hand.

AFAIK, even Byron at T3 doesn't have an easy method of replacing that damned hose without messing with the plenum. Mine is leaking again after only 3 years. Grrrr!

UPDATE

I've been working on it since my last post and I unbolted the plenum and everything attached to it and got to the damned leak. Like you said it was the 3" piece of hose and it was very very brittle so I lifted the plenum up and cocked it up and there was barely enough room to turn the clamps with a 1/4" wrench. So I ripped the old piece of hose off and replaced it with a new piece and it seemed to fix the leak. The leak was so bad that 2 constant streams were flowing off of it.

Than I put everything back together and went to start the car (please dont laugh ) and it doesn't really run. It skips and revs high than almost kills than back high. I'm sure this is just something simple but I didn't catch it right off.

Any suggestions?

I'm certainly not laughing... that's a tough one... there are so many things It could be. Do you hear any noises like vacuum leaks - maybe around where the plenum bolts to the runners? Maybe a bad MAF connection? Tough to say... probably time to start retracing your steps...

If the fuel hoses were as brittle as you say, chances are so are all the other 30-40 hoses under the plenum, and 1 or more cracked while you lifted plenum.....why you do all hoses,KS,and harness as one job.

I only lifted the plenum 2" up just enough to get to the leaky fuel line; I didn't take it clear off. The engine only has about 70,000 on it so the other hoses aren't too bad but will need replacing in the near future.

I'ts not the MAF connection. One of the throttle cables came off on the passenger side and is kinda loose. Could it be something like that?

YEAHHH HAAAA!! My Q is working!! I am now a Q specialist.

I got lookin around and found that one of the seals on the plenum was slightly off so I fixed it and now my Q purrs and no more gas smell!!

Thanks guys for all your help. I took pictures of most of the process that may be helpful to others down the road.

Would you like me to post them?

Pictures always welcome!

But as Qship96 reamrks, you'll be back soon when the other brittle hoses start to fail. Coolant hose failures can be catastrophic for th engine.

Must be a trashed Q not to be worth $800?

Congratulations!

Pictures PLEASE! This is an annoying little problem that affects every G50 owner, sooner or later. It would be GREAT to have it documented with some pics.

A Q's worth is not defined by what you can sell it for, but what a suitable replacement will cost.If you are not happy spending $2500 per year forever on M&R you are in the wrong class of vehicle: 4,000 pound V8.
