  First House

So I am buying my first house in a couple of weeks, my b/f and i are purchasing it from his grandmother so that means no mortgage which will be really nice.

Im not sure what we should do first. I know cleaning is a must be cause there were renters living in it before.

Paint?
flooring?

im not sure where to start

Thanks

Have the foundation inspected, and get a home inspector. He will provide you with a list of necessary things he finds need attention.
Make sure there is proper drainage from the foundation and no standing water with in 10 ft of foundation. Check gutters, and roofing. Have air ducts cleaned.

Its a case by case basis depending on house and age.

Paint ceiling first. Then walls, then trim. Do flooring last.

My experiance is 15 years in home building industry.

PM me if any more questions, as I will probly forget to look in this section.

Congrats! lucky you don't have a mortgage. Painting is the best way to spruce it up and make it feel "brand new".

LOL, I'd love to not have a mortgage. Anyone want to take over the $3400/month that I pay?

Seriously though, do a full home inspection, it's worth it's weight in gold (and piece of mind).

Painting is great, and new hardwood (self-installed) is a great way to boost value and bling appeal without spending a ton of money.

massive party?\

THEN start fixing stuff...

Plus, if you need to redo your floor, you just sand it and refinish it. Done.

yea we did have our projector in the living room going on the wall for our home theater...also the reason why we painted everything white but then the bulb went out in the projector so were just back to a flat panel tv...

Congrats.. that's truely a good deal. Your cashflow will benefit from not have to subtract that huge expense.

Being in the building & design field, I agree w/ all that "DavesZ" has said to do first. Make sure the foundation and structure is solid before investing in cosmetic asetetics.

Since it's your boyfriend's grandmother, will the house be in his name or both of yours? b/c God forbid anything happens.. ya'll aren't married and you will not have any right to that house.
