it is actually very simple, you just put your hand onto the flat try area and pull it straight down. It is just held up by two big clips...I was blown away how easily it opens up when I had a problem with my aftermarket stereo and took it to the guy to find out why. He just grabbed the top and pulled it straight down and it just pulls forward. From there mounting points were easy to find for the single DIN unit i put in.

Hey I am woman who knows how to tear things apart but any vehicle including my Harley I buy the Haynes Repair Books for them! It helps alot in trying to follow the directions especially if there are Pictures to tear stuff apart to repair! My father taught me that many years ago!

And my profession is I repair Xerox equipment. And I have learned everything I know by paying attention or being showed but mostly by Trial and Error. It's good way to learn the lessons of repairs. But if ya got somebody to show ya first, sure does help ALOT! ;-)

Hey everyone I just got a 2006 Nissan Xterra Offroad and was wondering how hard it is to remove everything that I need to in order to remove the stock rockford head unit and if anyone knew of a video to do it for this year or gen. I was also wondering if the dash tweeters are independent or if they had some kind of crossover for them. Any and all info would be greatly appreciated thanks.

NICO has the Nissan factory service manuals in pdf format for Xterra owners to download at http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM
Haynes manuals are good but they cover more than one year which can lead to wrong info like wiring diagrams for example. We have the exact Nissan factory manual for your truck which is the definitive source. Welcome to NICO!!

My experience with haynes and chilton is both pretty useless and vague.
