I want to start a drifting/driving club for people in the NJ area.

There's no (legal) place to drift in this area. The only option is autocross, which barely gives you any driving time. There's also a monthly drifting event at Englishtown, but I would like to set something up for every weekend or at least every other weekend.

Here's how I see this working:

1. Get about 20 people who are interested in doing this.2. Find parking lots to rent for a day.3. Set up a course with cones.4. Drift/race all day.

If you're interested or know of any parking lots in NJ that would work, let me know.

I haven't researched the permits we would need, but I think it is feasible to get the necessary paperwork, especially if it's a small event. I'm willing to work for it if there's enough interest. Having a place to drift in this area would be awesome.

it would be hard to rent parking lots for even a day. Theres a lot of bs that comes into mind that isn't worth it, or is too expensive. Usually the ensurance kicks you in the a$$. And they might even come up with bs that they dont want tire marks all over their parking lots. Unless the owner of it is cool, then that be awesome!

Yea.. I'm sure it will be a pain, but still worth it. There's an autocross club that uses one of the Meadowlands parking lots. They put down plenty of rubber, and it doesn't seem like there have been any complaints. I have no idea what that prices for renting/insurance are. Let me know if you guys have heard any figures. If we get enough people, it could be pretty affordable per person.

Good job, hillz. I never noticed that multiplex driving on the parkway.

Yea... that's pretty big. I've been searching online and haven't been able to find a number or way of contacting them. Let me know if you get a number.

Here is an aerial pic of the Giants stadium lots:

Google Maps Link: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=...&om=0

And here's a closeup of the autocross lot. You can actually see the line where the rubber is laid down and the outline of a track.. heh.

I'm going to do some research on this and try to contact the autocross coordinators to see what kind of permit/insurance is involved for using the lot.

I'm sure we could all find a few cones. It wouldn't take many to outline a basic course.

Is anyone going to be driving by that multiplex in the next couple of days? If not, I'll try to go over there during the weekend and see if there's a phone number posted anywhere.

I talked to one of the coordinators of the Meadowlands autocross, and he gave me a lot of useful information.

1. Renting the Giants Stadium lot is about $1000 per day. Yeah, this sounds like a lot, but if 25 people pay $40 each, that covers the cost. If we get more people to come out, it will be even cheaper. Also, renting the Giants Stadium lot is probably a lot more expensive than many other parking lots because the schedule at the stadium is very tight.

2. In NJ, you need to file for a club racing license with the state police.

3. Most car clubs use K&K Insurance to insure the events. The premium depends on how many members the club has and the size/type of event. The autocross club pays about $1600 per year for insurance. I think the insurance premium would be less for us since we will probably have a smaller event compared to an autocross.

4. The autocross club tried to use the Amboy Multiplex Cinemas lot also (last year), but the owner was in Boston and was not interested in renting at the time. Maybe this has changed.

I think our next step should be to find out how to file for the club racing license with the state police and to contact the Amboy Multiplex lot owners. If we can't get that to work, then we could try setting something up at Giants Stadium or looking for other lots.

beautiful!! i think we should also get some sort of running list of those who plan to join the club and a possible name for the club.....also liability forms would need to be made and signed by the members/participants but thats probably a little later down the line.....so..... think we should plan a meet???

I guess everyone who has expressed interest in this thread is planning to be a part of it? I could set up an e-mail list or something so that we can have some kind of way of "joining".
nateb wrote:and a possible name for the club.....
Post some suggestions... heh... this could get interesting.
nateb wrote:think we should plan a meet???
Yea. We should meet and then we'll get an idea of how many people are willing to come out. Everyone suggest time/place for this or next weekend?

Also, let's try to get the word out to others that might be interested, NICO members or not.

Yea. I was wondering if we could skip on the insurance if we all sign an agreement to be responsible for any damage to the lot... but that may be kind of risky as we may get charged for stupid things like tire marks, etc. Also, probably need to sign something saying that we will not sue under any conditions.. blah blah.

It is a big hassle, but I think it'll be worth it. Also, remember that $1000 is just for Giants Stadium, which is a pretty busy place. There's no way that the Multiplex parking lot would be that high.

To keep track of who wants to join the club, I wrote a script to save everyone's e-mail addresses. That way, we can e-mail people for announcements, etc.

Go to http://driftclub.240edge.com/join.php to add your e-mail to the list.

a suggestion....come out to our meet on tuesdays in freehold......or lets meet this saturday we found a couple possible lots in north jersey , tj and i were planning on checking them out one day.

I dont think any other lot would charge us $1000 to use it for a day so i think we would be lookin at only a few hundred dollars to rent, lets make meadowlands a last resort

club name:jersey drifters (JDC)

I would be coming out to that meet already, but I have to be in the city on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday nights. It would have to be sometime Thursday-Sunday for me. Also, Freehold is a little far for me (1 hour drive), but I would be willing to go out in that area if we decide on it.

We'll definitely keep you updated. And let anyone else you think might be interested know about it.
