Seems there is a tendancy that some sedan owners talk like "oh, if I wish my G were only a coupe" or "I'm looking for a manual, but couldn't find one".I know this isn't true for you all, but I've read this in more than one post.

I went to the dealership, decided on the 6spd coupe just like anyone else could do, and waited a few weeks for the delivery. It wasn't rocket science. Makes me curious why a person would get an auto if you "plan" on getting a manual (this applies to you AT coupe owners, too). Or a sedan if you really wanted the coupe.

I get it if you have a family and need 4 doors, but it seems at least a few folks have this notion that an MT6 coupe is somehow this mythical beast that only a few can ever hope to own. Did I totally luck out and find a black on black, fully loaded, MT6 coupe???? If it's that bloody rare, I'll gladly sell it to you for $75k!

Am I misunderstanding some people's feeling in this regard?

Yes, I do lust for a coupe, but an auto. I wanted a coupe, but happened upon this used sedan at a great price.

I would have absolutely loved to have the coupe.....but the coupe only comes in RWD which for me is a no go considering the amount of snow I see where I am. I wanted an AWD vehicle as I needed a daily driver all year round.

Well you got me there... my coupe sits in the garage part of the year. Guess I'm just fortunate that I can have a second, AWD vehicle that I don't mind driving in the snow (not that we get much where I'm at).

If I was rich enough that it was my play car, sadly I drive my car everyday often in traffic. I'd rather have the auotmatic then the frustration of driving a stick every day.

the auto coupe is almost just as fun at the manual.

manuals are no fun in city traffic.

You must not have driven both. There's a serious lack of power in the autos. I'm not sure where it went *looks under floormat* I can only attribute it to drivetrain inefficiency.

One would have to drive both a manual and an auto to know, no?

On that regard we could also say there's a serious lack of torque on the 6MT. I'm not sure where it went *looks under floormat* I can only attribute it to intake design.

Sometimes I wish I had the manual, simply for the extra horsies. However, driving in manual shift mode is a ton of fun!

The manual shift mode is terrible.. I tried both when I bought my G35 and after driving the auto I thought to myself.. "maybe this is not that great a car after all" Then I drove the manual and was like "where do I sign?"

Thank you, Kenrik.

Those were my sentiments EXACTLY!

The accleration on the auto just doesn't do it for me. Throttle response made me get back in my antiquated I30 and speed on the freeway onramps a few times to make sure I wasn't dillusional.

My I, with all it's miles on it, still pushes me back in my seat. The G35 auto made me bored and I wanted to take a nap.

I drove a loaner 06 G35x, and the auto trans is utter piece of crap. It drove me crazy.

While driving the auto in traffic, i thought "Oh let's see if it's easier to drive as some people say" ... it was terrible. I couldn't imagine driving anything but a manual (yes even in the worst traffic). I even tried using that "manual mode" and i couldn't keep track of gears without looking at the dash. I always found myself in the wrong gear. I don't see why they couldn't make it 6 speed AT.

I've driven other auto cars, and the G felt the worst. I know if I drove an auto, I would not be driving a G. My 6MT on the other hand, feels so nice!

I agree also The auto G35X kind of sucks.

The question I have is Do the younger members driving 6 speed manual coupes get more happy endings from their hot girlfriends than us old married farhts driving sedans?

IMO you need to know how to use the manual mode in the automatic before it becomes fun...I love driving my sedan and I only use manual mode...I could be cruising at 65 on the highway using 5th gear then floor it and "drop it" into 3rd and the car takes off....it's all about how you use it....anybody else drive this way with there auto?

Have you driven the 6MT? There are only two cars I can think of driving that felt the way the G35 Auto coupe did. A 2004 Dodge stratus 4 cylinder (rental car) and my wife's old 93 Celica St (1.6 liter I4 with 106 HP + auto transmission).

I feel that this thread is a little scattered. We have to variables here. Manual vs. Auto and Coupe vs. Sedan.

I think the manual is the only way to go unless Infiniti plans to put the G on a diet. As for the sedans... I'm sorry to say it, but I think the 1st gen sedans are hideous. Before getting my coupe, I was asked "is that your car?" (the asker pointing at a 1st gen sedan) and I said "NO!!!"

Sorry those of you who have the sedans because I know most of you love them.

The only thing I miss about my I30 (other than the ride height ) are the extra doors when transporting passengers. Otherwise, it's happy camping over here!

I agree that the older sedans don't look as good as the newer ones...but, my wife likes that look. So, beauty is in the eye of the beholder (what does that say about me lol!)

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the sedans or the ATs. I just couldn't justify paying $35k for an AT sports orientated vehicle when it doesn't have the pickup the the MT does.

For what I would get from and AT sedan, I'd just soon buy another I30. They had quite a few features that the Gs should have and don't like where the hell is my auto dimming rear view mirror? And how come I have less than a 1/4 of an inch of movement in the window switch before it goes to Auto? Just a few rants. Sorry for being off topic.

I don't drive this way often but I agree it is rewarding.

Adren77 - I would say you should know what gear you are in or at least whether to shift up or down based on the sound of the engine and the tachometer. This would apply in either Manual or Auto in Manual mode transmissions.

I chose the automatic becuase this is my fair whether commuter car - 20 miles to work each way. I drink cofee and bite a sandwich on the way.

I agree the car could be faster - but I don't think that will be hard to fix for $1-2 grand. Im not pressed right now - but am sure I will upgrade over time. I'm sure my 20" rims may have slowed me a tick as well - still the car is fast enough for my needs.

The car this replaced for me was an Lexus LS400 so going to the G35 Sedan was not an option. I never really liked the looks of the 1st Gen G35 sedan (the O7 is a totally different story) - and I think it would have been a step down from the big Lex. But the coupe - I thought would be a nice switch - with the looks and the exotic sounding exhaust. It has the back seat - my kids are still small so they fit - besides I have a 4 door pick up and wifey has the minivan - so the G35 Coupe becomes the fair weather commuter for me.

As for availability of the Manual - during my search I saw many manuals listed for sale around the country on ebay.

Maybe if I ever switch over to the G37, I'll give the manual a try, never have before so it might be a nice change of pace.
