  reintroducing me...

Just saying hello once again after a long time of reading posts after posts. I've been a long time member but I didn't really got to typing much, so I'm chiming in once again though I'll probably do of my posting in the Road Racing/Auto-X forum. A small background of my seat time: I first started auto-xing using a '89 fastback. I lowered it and raced it with stock tires&wheels. Did ok for my first year - then sold it. Second year, I drove a Plymouth Neon Espresso. Again lowered it and slapped on some azenis on steel wheels, surprisingly fun car - then sold it. Then towards the end of my second season, I acquired a '87 MR2, fix it, tune-up and fresh fluids and placed Kumho 710's and raced it - had a blast - got sold. Now, I'm driving/auto-xing my auto '98 240SX. I lowered it w/RSR springs on AGX's, Hankook Ventus RS2's on stock wheels headers and 3"catback and she's good to go. By the way, I also added a trans cooler. Now - I'm loving it and let it be known that I won't be selling this ride anytime soon.

I've driven a miata, actually drove an '06 miata - signed up in one of the mazda rev it up events here and I enjoyed the experience. The new miata is pretty much setup for auto-x but I think my S14 can achive the same feel. I'm using that experience to let my 240 grow into a better car and in return help me become into a better driver. Though I was tempted to get a early '90s blue miata...I could've, but I didn't and I'm glad I stuck with my 240

The mariner blue is kind of hard to find. I don't care much for it, but you wont see them every day. I was just razzing yah anyways.
The 240 is a fun car as well, i had one, sold it for the Yata. I couldn't get rid of the snap over steer, and I ran a couple NA miata's at a couple events and fell in love with how nimble they are. Now I just need to get my suspension upgraded and I will be good to go. other than the loose nut behind the wheel anyways.

If you upgrade your brakes, check out Carbotech brake pads. I had them on the front of the 240 and loved them. I had the XP8's I think. . .they were the panther plus's. They where over kill for the street and autoX but they STOPPED. I would check out the Bobcats. they are more of a street / autoX pad. And I would almost try running a more aggressive pad in the rear, than the front. I had really bad front brake bias, and they locked really easy. Lots of initiall torque and hard to modulate while threshold braking, I had hawk HPS on the rear. Even with with my hawks all the way around I still had the front brake bias Just thought I would mention it.

I believe I've eliminated most of the snap oversteer problem by the adjustments in my suspension setup. the car is still tail happy but only if its pushed too hard into a corner and/or exiting a corner. I've pushed the car several times this year and going out of control has just been a neutral slide.
My S14's braking is really poor at the moment. Front brakes do lockup but if proper modulation can be achived, that will be a big plus. For next season, I was contemplating on getting Hawk HP's all around and installing new brembo blanks all around. I'm going to install new caliper bracket on the rear, 'cuz of my pads binding onto my rotors, and I'll also flush my brake system then. I'm also going to install some ducting for the front brakes to help cool them of.
I'll be attending an auto-x this sunday held by a porshe club here in Jersey. I'll be classed together with all the non-porsche's - it'll be interesting.

When I did my brakes, I flushed the Fluid with Motul RBF600. The only problem with it is it has to be replaced every couple years at a minumium. I think i have seen recomendations of yearly for it, since it is so hydroscopic. but it also has a 598 deg dry boiling point. The True Blue Synthetic is also supposed to be good as well. But I forget who makes it.

I don't know if you have read Andy Hollis's GRM artical on the STS2 Miata biuld, but he goes into brake pad componds to change the bias front to rear of the brakes.

I am a big fan of Carbotech brakes. They cost more than the Hawks, but I was woefully disapointed with the HPS. And I LOVED the Carboteches. But I know a lot of people that swear by the HP+, blues and blacks though. FWIW.

You won't need duckting for AutoX. I never had an issue with over heating with the stock crap pads that the PO had put on. If you track it, you might need some duckting. Bubba1 has more knowdlege on that than I do.

I have brembo blank rotors on the front of the Yata and they are fine as long as you don't mind no zinc coating.

Have you checked the rear calipers to make sure they are greased up well. Just a thought, cheaper than a new braket or caliper. Worth checking anyways.

the course was really challenging - a long slalom, a horse shoe turn and a nice left hand sweeper and ends on a crazy "s" turn. course was a 60sec. average. Im going to look for action shots by other members and link them here. btw: almost got ran over by a wht GT3 on the finish line - lol - his brakes locked up and started to slide right where i was standing. I had to jump out of his way even though I was on a 6" curb. funny stuff...
had big problems with understeering, everyone had the same issue actually. I had to soften my suspension - AGX: front-1, rear 2. I lowered psi's all around - front 36, rear 28. I kNOW... most post of tire pressures for auto-x recommends higher psi's, but believe me, if you ran yesterday you'll be running the lowest pressure possible w/o scrubbing your sidewall. after i softened my setup I just had to adjust my driving a bit by braking late and throttle steering to rotate and clear corners (I'm definately getting a lighter battery for next season).
I need to look for the official results.
