hi fellows; i hope u can all help... i own a 1991 nissan 240sx se automatic

i followed advice from some previous topic concerning on how to easily removed the knock sensor.

well the thing is that when looking at the connection going to the sensor i noticed that only one of the female plugs was showing. i also removed the tape around the wire to show everything....its hard for me to explain so i took few pics .... the thing i wana know is if this is normal or somebody did this on purpose for some reason. i just dont want to startup the car and blow the expensive sensor!...any takers???

thats normal.

the one white wire is the actual signal wire that goes from sensor to ecu.

the other wire is whats known as shielding, and it goes to ground. it made to keep the knock sensor signal pure so to speak, keeps it from picking up voltage staticaly.

thats not the exact definition, but its the best way i can explain it, and hopefully you can understand.

it detects detonation in your cylinders and sends a signal to the ecu telling it to adjust the timing and/or fuel ratio.

possible crank angle sensor; thats the thing under the distributer; or the E.C.U. is bad!!!

check new topic here:
