G35 plenum spacer install **how to**

Installing the plenum spacer is really easy. I didn’t follow the instructions. The instructions said to drain the coolant, and remove the throttle body. This is simply not necessary. I used the Skunk2, 5/8 spacer. Everything fit really well.

First, remove all the bolts from the upper half of the plenum. Remove the two nuts that are attached to the studs. Disconnect the PCV valve hose. Disconnect intake from the throttle body. I used a piece of twine to tie the intake out of the way.

Disconnect the plug from the throttle body, and the one from the other “thing” attached to the upper half of the plenum.

Open up the plenum. Simply lift the top half off. Use a clean lint free cloth to wipe away any oil residue that is inside the plenum. I used a coat hanger to hold it up and out of the way.

Remove the rubber ring around the oil filler cap.

Take the six spacers provided and apply Permatex red RTV sealant to one side. Place in the center of the plenum in their correct places. Apply the RTV to the bottom side of the plenum spacer. Carefully place spacer on the bottom half of the plenum. Screw the new studs that were supplied into their proper holes. Apply the RTV to the tops of the small spacers and the top of the plenum spacer.

***Note: The use of the RTV is highly recommended. Overuse is a bad thing. Use a very thin bead, just enough to create a seal. You are not building a gasket, simply making it seal properly.

Very carefully place the top of the plenum on to the spacer. Put the 4 long bolts in the holes marked in red. Place the medium bolts in the holes marked in blue. The two studs are marked in green. Put the nuts on those. The nine remaining bolts are short, and go in the holes marked in yellow.

Tighten to 7lbs/ft torque. If you do not have a torque wrench, tighten lightly with a wrench. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. This can cause warping of the spacer, and can cause the “plenum whistle”.

Attach the PCV hose, both electrical plugs, Rubber oil filler ring and the intake. It should look something like this when done.

Start up your car, and check that everything is working properly. Take it for a test drive, and enjoy!

Notice the new sound? Yeah, it’s badass.

Here is the link to making the engine cover fit after the install.
