I'm just here for the bump.

I've been wanting a bike since I was kid...my mom sheltered me and wouldn't let me get one though.

my uncle however has had them around before I was born....so I've kinda grown up around them but don't have any real seat time.

currently, I'd like to find an 80-85 Suzuki GS750.
or if I go out and finance one, probably be an SV650 or possible DR-Z400SM

"Now you may ask if I regret it, if I would do it differently if I could, if I would take it back. NOT A CHANCE!!!!! I went for it. I put it all on the line. I always will. I knew what the consequences would be if I failed, and I was willing to accept them. So any of you reading who might be feeling a twinge of sympathy, don't. I made my decisions, and I accept the consequences. I'm no victim. And to those who are thinking about preaching at me, don't bother. I won't hear you. I haven't accomplished anything in this life worth remembering by playing it safe. That's boring to me anyway."

I really really hate carbed bikes. but the SV is an awesome bike, and I love the sound of Vtwin engines. the DRZ is really good to. but not as fast for long rides.

BTW: thanks Dan for making the thread "OFFICIAL"

Not a bike owner myself, even though I would like to be. But I had to kill a half hour, so I stopped at a nearby Ducati/BMW motorcycle dealership to window shop, and all I have to say is the new Ducati 1098 is sex on wheels...

I posted in the General area, but here it goes:

My last bike was a 2004 Kawasaki ZX6RR - fun bike, but had some miles on it (17K when i got her) and the ZX6R 636 is a better one. Although the ZX6RR has better suspension, slipper clutch (it realy helps when you go into the turn) and some other small stuff, but i would take the 636 over it anyday. The aftermarket stuff on it: Two Brothers slip-on, Vortex rearsets, K&N filter, CRG brake lever. Here's some pics:

Took the '06 Gixxer way over the tripple digits, of course on a closed course.
The R1 is one nice bike.

Can i say FUCK THAT SHIT??

I'm not fond of Carbed cars but when you get them tuned right they'll certainly do the trick.

the DRZ is certainly NOT an interstate bike...really...I don't know what purpose they serve, might be why I want one.

I've been riding dirtbikes since I was 8.

1st bike was a 1994 Suzuki Intruder 800 I bought when I was 18, and it was a little too small and underpowered after about a year.

2nd bike was a 1999 Honda CBR 600 F4 I bought at 20, and sold it so I could buy a newer one in the spring. That never happened, but I do want another streetbike sometime in the near future.

I currently have a 2004 Suzuki Ozark 250 I play on, and I ride my brothers KTM 250ex until I get a CR.

My next purchase is going to be a newer Honda CR250 so I can do a little MX and GNCC competition before I get too old and have to worry about paying all the bills.

the more I think about it...if I wind up financing something I'm gonna look for a DR-Z 400SM or a DR-Z650. Be kinda fun to just ride off the asphalt onto trails and not worry about unloading a truck.

until I break all the turn signals and mirrors.

I should be picking up my 2002 Yamaha R1 in couple of weeks, after 4 months waiting for the paperwork. Here's some pics of it as it sits right now:

2600 miles only. Got it for dirt cheap. Also waiting on the 2007 Suzuki GSX-R 750 paperwork, but it looks like it will have to wait till early spring or so.

Nowdays, all the bikes are fast. If you've never ridden one, you'll be in awe of the instantaneous acceleration of any cruiser, much less a sportbike.

For beginners, any of the big four are a good bet. (Honda/Yamaha/Suzuki/Kawasaki)

IMHO, Honda and Yamaha made more reliable beginner sportbikes throughout the 1990's. (The CBR ans YZF 600's) The Kaw. Ninja 250/500 was near bulletproof, but quickly outgrown.

As far as starters, I would recommend the Kaw. Ninja 250/500, Yam. YZF600 or CBR600 F3/F4 in the sportbike category, and a <800cc cruiser by any of the big four. If you like the idea of a V-twin on a great handling frame, check out the Suzuki SV650.

Good Luck!

The first bike I ever rode was my friends 06 gsxr600 track bike. I didnt go over 5 or 6 miles an hour in a parking lot because the throttle response was frightening. A few weeks later I bought one of my very own, now I've never been over about 140 miles an hour, because I ran out of racetrack
