Can anyone tell me what size the front and rear speakers are on the '96 300zx, has that "rockin" Bose System ha...both rear speakers are rotting and blown, so I'd like to go ahead and replace those. Also, I wanna get a new radio and all that jazz, easy to change out or does it have all that pre-amp crap stuffed back in there?

The bose system has an amp at each speaker, which is advised to remove when changing speakers. The speaker sizes I believe are 6.5" front and 3" rear.

The ones in my '90 were something like 3.5" all around. The reason I say this is I replaced them with 3.5" Infinity Ref Series.I did this as the 3.5" fit right into the Blose boxes with little modifications. Most people though choose larger speakers, and then it's a little more work.I also added a sub as without it, the low freq's just aren't there. As much as Bose isn't the hottest to me anyway, got to hand it to their engineering to get that much bass out of such a small speaker and enclosure. As you likely know, each speaker has it's own amp, and the Bose speakers are a completely different ohm spec that aftermarket speakers, so once you change the speakers, you may as well change the head unit as the Bose amps won't drive any other speaker to any degree. You can reuse the existing wiring to connect your head unit to, to go to the 4 speakers if you get a little creative at each end, not rocket science.

Get the adapter plates off ebay for like 10 bucks for the front and 10 bucks for the rear...it allows you to put 6.5 round speakers in the doors and the rear. i did a custom job installing mine and used the factory bose boxes...I still have the 6.5 rear plates if you need them i'll sell em to you. i had the 6.5 factory bose and the replacements fit without the adapter. Here's some pics.

I fit 6 1/2s up front and 4x6s in back with a little bit of modifications. I had the bose system.
