Hi,

First off I never had a nissan, until i got this one for free recently.I own a 2006 Dodge Charger and a 95 Dodge Avenger, I am a mopar fan, but now I just got a 85 Nissan 200sx I like the body and I think it has lots of potential. I have no idea on the engine codes and meanings and anthing like that, I work on cars and I only work on Mopars for a living but never seen a true import like this one.

I cannot seem to keep this car on, I start it up and then the idle goes straight up to 2k then goes slowly down till it shuts off in about 3 secs. And when I press the gas it just completly cuts off. I pulled the code and got Idle Switch and the AC code i think 31. Would this cause that problem? I am thinking of picking up a switch soon and replacing it.

And what are some of the mods available for this car, it is hard to find anything for it. Is anything interchangable? I would like to have all my cars have at least 250hp or more. My Avenger is close to that and charger passed that and I am looking to make the nissan like that too.

Thank you

Welcome to Nico!

Pictures would help this thread as the 200sx in North America is more like a sentra while the 200 sx in Europe is the 240 sx in North America. Which are two totally different cars with totally different engines...

Also try searching, IIRC I've seen this same problem several times so I'm sure there's a solution or two floating around for the exact same issue you're having!

Good luck!

Cool, I'll get some pics, I have no idea on the engine on these cars and what is the difference, I just like the body and I would like to do some suspension upgrades and maybe some other upgrades but I guess i should find out what engine I have.

There was no 240sx in 85 so we know it isn't that. Probably an S12

Dude the s12 was never like a sentra, the newer "200sx" is like a sentra, but the one he is talking about is a RWD hatch with a VG in it.

Your engine must be the CA18E-T

I would think that squeezing more power out of the 200sx would be the same as any turbo car. Bigger turbo, bigger injectors, intercooler, fuel management, wideband, bigger exhaust, tune tune tune! Personally I don't know much about forced induction (hopefully I will soon) but I suggest checkin out the KA-T and CA forums (if that is indeed what is in your car). The KA-T forum seems to get a lot more traffic and is a good source for general turbo/upgrade info since those guys have to make something from nothing.

ok so reading up on the s12, based on the year you said it was it would appear that you have a CA engine in your car.

bro just swap in a ca18det and call it a day. and for suspension i htink you have to use like z31 300zx in the back for struts and something else in the front i will get a link hold on

ok well, I changed the TPS and it starts and stays on now but I cannot give it gas as it shuts off instantly, kinda sounds like it chokes. I dont hear any misfiring and it runs very rough. I would like to get it working and out of my garage so I can put in my Avenger in there cause I am swapping the motor on it soon.

I can step on the gas very easy and the rpms go up but then its only a little bit. I noticed the spark plug wires are old, and one is broken, i will change it tomorrow, anyone else know what it could be? I will do a compression test, is there a port to test the fuel pressure? I can't seem to find it.

i think that you should get that S12 running before you decide to put the avenger in its garage place. The S12 could just take it's place for modifications. And if not, let me know and i may snag that S12 off your hands

ok well I tested out my battery and altenator, the battery was bad and replaced. I played with the wires and i noticed the distributor was loose and I turned it fully clockwise (or turn towards the rear of the car) It seemed to start and stay on a lot longer but still the same situation with the cut off with gas and sometimes it wont start. Should i replace the distributor and wires? it also misfires like crazy now. I am getting good flow of gas. but ill get a compression test done and I'll take pictures now that I managed to get the car turned around facing the light

i just fixed my 240 yesterday because of the same problem...it shut off as soon as i taped the gas otherwise it would just die after like 10sec...i found out that it was happening because i took my distributor out and it was off a few teeth ...set the crank and dizzy to tdc then try it....you said your "dizzy screws were loose" so maybe thats why the timing is off....let me know what happens...
