Nissan 350Z reliability - how does it compare?

Because existing sources of auto reliability information left much to be desired, in late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research at TrueDelta.com. TrueDelta reports absolute stats like "trips to the shop" that make the differences between cars much clearer. Results are updated four times a year, so any significant changes in a model's reliability become apparent quickly.

Thanks to the help of NICOClub and its members, for which I am very grateful, the results already include a number of Nissan and Infiniti models. I hope to include the Z as well.

Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, panel members receive full access to the results for free.

It's working now. Perhaps when you tried it the server was down briefly.

So far, the 350z is NOT being researched with the Delta site. The z population is much smaller than the main stream car buyer.

The number sold has only a moderate impact on getting a large enough sample. Nissan has sold enough Zs that this shouldn't be a factor.

The car I have the largest sample for is the 2007 Nissan Versa, with 138 signed up. The Versa certainly isn't a top seller. But the NICO forum for the car is very active, and has been extraordinarily helpful.

With the 350Z, the 2003 is about halfway to the minimum, and the 2004 a bit behind that.

A couple model years are about halfway to the minimum. Hopefully I can start collecting data on the Z within the next month or two.

Thanks for the luck.

Closer, but still not there yet. Results for 67+ other models in a week or two. Would like to include the Z in future updates.

Both 2003 and 2004 are about half way to the minimum.

In response to requests, I've added a Common Auto Repairs Database (CARDb) to my site.

Currently it's just possible to add common repairs to the database. When the database has been populated, owners will be asked to report whether or not their car has actually had these problems. So we can find out how common "common repairs" actually are.

My suspicion: usually less common than people think.

The form includes a field for a forum thread URL, so people can be directed here for thorough discussions if there is a thread discussing the repair. I hope this will help make more people aware of this excellent forum in addition to providing more details about the repair.

Thanks.

The 2003 is now just five cars short of the minimum needed to get started, and other years are also getting close.

The 2003 was included in this month's survey. The 2004 and 2005 are now about halfway to the minimum. More participants very much needed for all years.

We've had good participation for the 2003, so it should be in the May update. It will be close, though, so a few more participants could make all the difference.

Other years are closer to the minimum, but not there yet.

115 owners now signed up. Thanks, guys.

That said, nearly half of these are 2003s. More participants would be helpful for all years.

There will be a result for the 2003 in August -- started collecting data too recently to include it in the May set.

We're now close to the minimum with both the 2004 and 2005.

Additional participants needed for all years.
