i bought a s14 vlsd diff from a junk yard for 100 dollars, here are a few pictures of it notice there is no vlsd sticker on it, it came off of an abs model

first i jacked up the car and supported it with jacks and jackstands because im paranoid, then i removed the rear exhaust so that i had more room to maneuver.then i proceded to take the old diff out, you need to remove four 14mm nuts that hold the drive shaft to the pinion on the diff.then you remove 6 12mm bolts on each side of the diff that hold the flanges to the axlesthen you place a jack under the diff pumpkin and remove four 17mm nuts on the back holding the rear cover to the sub framethen you remove two 17mm bolts that hold the front of the diff to the subframeonce its loose you need to maneuver the nose of the diff forward and over the swaybar so that the rear bolts will come out of their holes, once they are out slowly lower the diff and as soon as the rear clears pull the nose back from the sway bar, then move the axles aside and pull out the diff.since i was using a s14 into my s13 i had to swap rear covers and rig up some bushings for the front two bolts.i bought a new cover gasket from checkers for 4 dollars and used high temp red silicone.for the bolts i used the s14 bolts with rubber grommets and washers, i cut the grommets with a hacksaw so that they would sit flushthen i used two washers in between the diff and the sub frame and one washer under the diff.to replace the diff it is just the opposite of removal. here is a picture of the finished productit took me about 20 minutes to jack the car up 20 minutes to get the old diff out and about 20 to get the new one in, the thing that took the longest was changing the rear cover because i cleaned it up real well and had to wait for the silicone to dry. you can either fill the diff up when it is on the floor or when you put it into the car, in this picture i used a bottle of gear oil with a piece of hose to top off the diff it used about i and a half quarts, i also used some lsd additive jsut in case.i took the car out for a spin tonight and it felt very nice it accelerates much better through turns it hooks up better from dead stops and when drifting it is more predictable and flows smoother, also when i hit high boost the "tire" dosnt start spinning, very worth my 100 dollars, also this was a abs unit so the snout of the diff was about 3/4 of an inch longer but i had no problem the driveshaft worked fine.

Keep an eye out for a J30, that's a good diff swap as well.

You mean 5-bolt 300ZX style. Could you please at least research information before posting the wrong thing?

yes you can, i used the s14 flanges though they came with the diff i think that they are different than the stock open diff so if you get the diff with flanges you have nothing to worry about.

On this Diff swap( s14 abs diff into s13) you mentioned that you had open diff, and you have to use the s13 cover and put it on the s14 vlsd/abs. Did you have problem putting the driveshaft back? Was is it a lil SHORT or LONG? how did the stock s13 drive shaft fit on s14 abs diff?

the driveshaft worked fine, it was a little long but because of the design it has some wiggle room.
you have to use the cover off your original diff because the s14 is different.
