Ditto! That is exactly the case with my Versa. Once the sun is out and the interior warms up, it is quiet as can be. As far as this type of noise being normal, I can only say that my 4 year old PT Cruiser STILL did not have a single rattle or squeak in it after 70,000 kilometers. Very impressive and a far cry from Chrysler products of old. In fact, I've owned two PT's since 2,000 (both built in Mexico) and neither one had any rattles, creaks, or groans. Sometimes the quest for extremely tight tolerances can cause other problems. I once had a problem with a badly squeaking floor in my house which drove me nuts. When we decided to change carpeting, I went throughout the house and screwed down all the sub-flooring. It worked marvelously except in this one area. Didn't matter how many screws I put in there, the creaking continued. Finally I took a skill saw and cut all the way along the two sheets of sub-flooring. Presto, squeak gone! I was told after the fact that a rookie had probably installed the sub-floor in that bedroom and was trying to do a good job by making sure everything was real tight. In the end, that was the wrong course of action.
So far, this annoying creaking and moderate disappointment in fuel economy are my only concerns with the Versa. Thankfully, the creaking stops when the interior warms or I would be going nuts again! In a way, I'm dreading thoughts of next winter. Over the years I've spent much time in quality control isolating noises so I'll have my wife drive sometime when it's cold and try to isolate the source. It will be a good opportunity to check out the automotive stethoscope I purchased recently. If I find an indentifiable cause, I'll post it on the forums.
