With the list of mods I already have I was curious if a new cat back exhaust and free flow cats would help or hurt at this point. I don't want to lose too much back pressure and I'm not really sure if these mods would make me lose low end torque.

Thanks.

I don't think you would loose any low end. But from my experience messing with the cat's is more trouble than it's worth. I would probably just do the cat back exhaust.

Welcome to NICO!!

have patience my friend...people are not going to answer you if they don't know...

Or sometimes...posts get shuffled and dropped down near the bottom of the threads.

For example...I didn't even see this one..so I will apologize in advance.

I have posted your question to more techy people... someone should answer you shortly

In the meantime...why don't you post some pics of your badboy in the Members Rides area?

Hi LD!

We kinda have a policy here, if someone isn't CERTAIN, we'd prefer they not respond (just confuses the n00bs).

So, on to your question...

At present, you have the plenum spacer (great mod) and intake (also good). Both increase intake charge, but you've done nothing for the other end...

Using the term "backpressure" as if it's a good thing, tells me you're probably a middle-aged musclecar guy (like me).

Get this, if nothing else: Backpressure is the wrong word, and it's NEVER good. On the older cars, too large a diameter of exhaust would create cooling in the pipes, which reduced scavenging, which is misinterpreted as "not enough backpressure" - however, this is a misnomer.

On to your car: Yes, a good catback and high-flow cats works WONDERS on your G. Some brands and desgns work better than others. Steer clear of a "true dual" setup and stick with a y-pipe system...

The NISMO and Stillen catbacks are regarded as some of the best in the biz.

Freeing up the exhaust will complement your intake mods nicely.

lol, pretty much, is 30 midle aged? i really have no idea.

Anyway thanks for the replies. I will be more patient but i thought this was the forum for all the hotshots...am i wrong? Been a member of 6MT and G35driver for a long time but getting sick of ll the "ricey" **** that goes on there. I want real performance help not "how much to put S K Y L I N E on the back of my G35" type questions.

If you feel like it, ou can be a little more technical. For example, why stick with Y-pipe? I have figured the Y-pipe creates a bottle neck.

Also, anyone familiar with the MREV2 mod? Supposed to add some torque, just curious if it does. If there's one thing the G is lacking its a good dose of torque.

Yep, you're in the right place.

BTW - I'm 36, and yeah, we're "middle aged", comparatively...

So here's the deal - You have 2 options: A true dual system, or a Y-pipe system....

The Y-pipe most closely replicates the OEM system, which, is tuned for efficiency (but some sacrifices are made for fitment, quiet, cheap manufacturing, and ease of assembly).

Eliminate those sacrifices, and you have a straighter, freer-flowing system starting at the cats...

The aftermarket systems us a larger Y-pipe, so as to increase scavenging WITHOUT creating "dead spots" (where the gasses cool and "pool")... It's plenty large for the displacement of the VQ. Remember, we want to keep the gases hot and moving, not cold and stagnant.

As far as the MREV, if you already have the plenum spacer, you MAY not be terribly impressed by the minimal gains of the MREV. Headers, high-flow cats, and a good catback are your next steps.

Or, skip ALL that and just boost it. Stillen and Vortech are the two most reliable systems according to my research and experience....

Because a true dual is simply too big for the displacement you have... Great if you're boosting tho!

High school geometry: Compare the area of dual 2.5" pipes (or even 2") with the area of a single 3" pipe... Big difference.
