  Anyone here like spicy food?

I love it!! (especially thai)

Only thing is, it's hard to make just right at home....

Anyone know of some good recipes that turn out really well?

List specific ingredients to help get that "homestyle thai" flavour if you know of them.

I use a lot of chili powder in dishes (grew up in socal love me some Mexican food) but I recently discovered chipolte chili powder and its soooo good.

try this one though for grilled onions.

chop your onions, fold up some tinfoil like a pan and put the onions and some butter in. toss it all on the gril and then sprinkle a good amount of chili powder on them. Cook until almost tender and then throw a good pinch of sugar on them. let the sugar carmalize and then but on your burger..amazing

I can't eat spicy food for the life of me. Any slight spiciness and I start to sweat from my forehead. My dad can eat spicy food like its coco puffs. Weird.

Just go to your local Asian store and buy a jar of ground chili peppers in soy bean oil and slice up some thai chili peppers also. That's what i do and I am half thai half laos.

Ozzie,
Get a green papaya, some vinegar, sugar, fish or squid sauce and some Thai Bird peppers. Use a grater and grate the green papaya into a pile of shoestring size pieces. Take 5-10 (depending of your tolerance) Peppers and a tablespoon of vinegar. grind into a paste in a mortise and pestle. Take about 2 tablespoons of fish or squid sauce and about 2 teaspoons of sugar. Mix all ingredients together, and you have green papaya salad.

I love spicy food and have a pretty high tolerance for it, but today.....

I went to Zaxby's for lunch, and I got their hottest wings...the flavor is called Insane.

A few weeks ago I had the 2nd hottest, Nuclear, and I didn't think they were that hot. Had a good bite to them, but nothing crazy.

Then today I ordered the Insane wings because I wanted to step it up a notch. And holy hell were these things hot. I had 3 wings, then had to take a 10 minute breather while my tongue soaked in ranch dressing before I could continue. They weren't the hottest wings I've ever had, but they were damn near it.

As far as authentic thai ingredients, make sure you get the right peppers, make sure theyre ripe, peanut and ginger are common, so is coconut. If you dry up the peppers and crush them up they go great on curry and stur fry. My dad and I have been learning how to do some good stir fry at home so hit me up if you have any other questions.

alright guys....

Asian Curry or Mexican and South America chili?

Damn, I like both. Well, not necessarily chili, but there are some freaking awesome South American dishes. I've made 2 trips to Peru in the last 15 months, and one of the things I loved the most was the food. It freaking rocks. But you can't go wrong with some curry either.

For the record an interesting scientific study was done.

Capsaicin, the active ingredient in peppers that makes them "spicy" has been shown to be an anti cancer agent.

A controlled test was done with rats AND with human cell cultures that are very promising. Rats with tumors were seperated into two groups, and one group was given regular capsaicin injections while the others did not. The group that recieved the injections all showed a 20-40% decrease in tumor size after a couple months. apparently it attacks the mitochondria of the cancer cells easier than normal cells , activating their "self destruct mechanism" which dont work in cancer cells..which is why they dont die on their own.

So up your intake of spicy food and be cancer free

Try this sometime...

Get a bunch of jalapeƱos. Cut them in half and take all the seeds out. Fill the peppers with cream cheese, and wrap each half with a slice of bacon. Put them on a cookie sheet and stick them in the over (for Im not sure how long, or how hot...my bad, that kinda ruined the whole recipe lol).

Since you take the seeds out they aren't that spicy, but every once in a while you get one that makes you sweat.

Lol I can make you sooooooo jealous. My mom's Thai =p I love her cooking, and she's coming to visit me in a couple weeks so more food for meeeee. I would have to ask her... But she's the type of person who never uses any recipes or anything, she just throws stuff in and it ALWAYS comes out good.

IMO, if you want really nuclear spicy stuff, nothing beats good Indonesian.

Rendang FTW!

Anyway, for any Thai curry, just grab some curry paste (whatever type), some coconut milk, and then whatever else you want to add to it. You can find proportions online, but everyone seems to prefer something different.

I like Massaman or red curry the best. Massaman is great with chunks of preserved pineapple, pine nuts, and duck.

Do you eat a lot of Indian? Roganjosh is my favorite, with lamb or goat or some other really lean red meat (venison is GREAT).

I tend not to use a lot of chicken or beef in curries. I love 'em both, but they have milder flavors that seem to get overridden by a strong curry. Strong gamey stuff is best, IMO.

oh god do i love spicy food. Not a fan of curry based stuff but peppers, horseradish, wasabi stuff.

One of the Spiciest things i've EVER had.... Red Savina hot sauce. it's a certain breed of habanero that's EXTREMELY hot, granted there are hotter things, but not very many.
http://www.redsavina.com is the site to get the stuff from.
I like this stuff just for the straight mouth/lung/face/scalp burning that goes on.

if you want good spicy flavor Pain Is good makes some amazing sauces. A friend of mine recently got me some of their Garlic hot sauce, habanero + garlic = heaven. very sweet flavor with a nice bite to it.
http://www.painisgood.com seriously, check them out. Wonderful stuff!
