I'm not sure if James is competing yet...I used to be pretty heavy into MMA... about 5 years ago. Got injured badly and never went back.

If James isn't competing, he certainly could. He's a big, scary, country-strong hilljack that looks like he could take a few punches.

what helps me is a lot of sprinting and circuit training for endurance but theres no way in hell ill ever stop lifting heavy. unless you have a lot of fat stay away from distance running (3+miles). there are very few times ive lost to someone being stronger or more skilled, its normally been bc they had better endurancehow old is old? if you arent in your 30s then you have plenty of time. after a year of hard training you should be able to do amateur competitions well assuming you catch on pretty quick. luckily im still pretty young and can dream of being in the ufc, pride, etc.

nah, I'm almost 25.oh I can dream too. only the UFC heavy division suddenly got stacked but yeah, train for what you're going to do...don't train for a marathon when you're not gonna be running 20 miles. hey Beanie, if you don't mind me asking, what kind of injury did you get?

What?! It's not a matter of age, it's more important how well you've taken care of your body. I had my first sanctioned MMA fight at 31 against a 19 year-old. I can honestly say that he beat me only because he had slightly better training - age was not a factor. When I get back from this tour overseas next year, I'll be right back into the ring/cage. Randy Couture is my role model in MMA. That guy just keeps going; keeps surprising the skeptics.

i cant wait to see cro cop fight couture. lol the older you get the harder it is to keep your body in shape/ taken care of. im sorry but age is a factor. your body doesnt function as well when youre older ie decreases in testosterone production, etc. not only that, if you just started fighting at 31 you wont have as much time to improve yourself as a 19 year old who can be in the sport another 12 years than you. time will catch up to you. ya there are other factors, some people just suck at some things and some catch on really fast.

Cro Cop is going to have a lot of trouble with someone whose wrestling is as strong as Randy's - see his fights against Fedor and even Randleman. He seems to lose heart quickly when they get him down and and can keep him down. | Quote, originally posted by NoStickers » | | lol the older you get the harder it is to keep your body in shape/ taken care of. im sorry but age is a factor. your body doesnt function as well when youre older ie decreases in testosterone production, etc. not only that, if you just started fighting at 31 you wont have as much time to improve yourself as a 19 year old who can be in the sport another 12 years than you. time will catch up to you. ya there are other factors, some people just suck at some things and some catch on really fast. |
I guess part of my thing is that I have no desire to fight in the huge shows. I think I'd be good with a Gladiator Challenge or KOTC middleweight championship. You're right that it does take more supplements and more interesting exercises/workout sessions to stay as lean as I was when I was in my 20's, but that definitely doesn't mean that someone's going to be better than me or be able to beat me just because they're younger than I am, or even because they're in better shape. Time catches you, yes, but it can be warded off for a lot longer than most people are willing to fight it for.
Also, I didn't say I just started fighting at 31, but before that it was TKD, kickboxing, and having to fight at security/bouncing/bail enforcement jobs. My first sanctioned MMA bout was at 31. Oh, and I'm digging your avatar.

true. itll still be fun to watch lol regardless of who wins.what do you think of the upcoming gsp vs serra fight? i want serra to win just bc hes a jiu jitsu guy but i have a feeling gsp has the upperhand. i was just using those ages as an example. sorry, i didnt mean to imply that you just started. i think fighters could keep fighting into their 40s no problem if they kept up with it. i dont think you see it too often atm bc most older fighters are 1 dimensional. like shamrock for example. hes in pretty good shape just has fallen behind skill wise. couture on the other hand is relatively well rounded which has contributed to his success as an older fighter if you ask me. i just stress being in shape bc im a ground guy and it helps a lot being stronger than your opponent. lol i didnt think many ppl knew what my avatar was

I like Serra - I met him at a NAGA tourney in Jersey last year, and when he found out that my teammate and I were active military, he told us if we could make it out to his school, we could train for free (it was too far away, though). Unfortunately, I just don't think he has enough skillsets to handle St. Pierre. I think GSP is going to be champ for quite a while.Deadpool is one of Marvel's best characters, in my opinion. I love his constant smarta$$ remarks - reminds me of myself.

I like Serra, but I'm actually disappointed that he won, because GSP really is the better fighter. I wonder if he was too comfortable and under-trained. If that's the case, he deserved to lose, but it just goes to show that anyone can win on any given night.Thank you, Koschek, for beating up Diego Sanchez. I hate Sanchez. He is a good fighter, I just don't like his personality at all. Didn't think Pete Spratt would lose to Marcus Davis, either.

sanchez has mediocre striking as does Koscheck.where Koscheck had him trumped was speed and wrestling. Diego should've atleast tried takedowns even though Kos would have sprawled and stood up from them....he might've gotten lucky and had Kos take his back and get to work on a sweep.

did you guys watch the dana white vs tito **** on spike? im so freakin pissed off. wow. why would they show that without a fight just to try and make tito lose face? i read maybe a few months ago that they had a money issue or something to do with tito promoting his clothing brand so the called off the fight. so i was surpirsed when they said they would show this a couple weeks ago. i thought there was something fishy when they only promoted it for a week or two. what a waste of my time. i could have been doing something more productive like sleeping than watching dana run around like a fat *** getting his *** kicked training in his propoganda show.

indeed.the fight is honestly quite stupid. it's a lose lose for Tito....hell...neither of them really had anything to gain from it. I didn't bother watching it because I knew the fight had already been called off...pure standup though...I bet if Dana trained enough he'd school Tito.

I don't know. Sometimes they have mercy on us and broadcast UFC's on the AFN (the Armed Forces Network), but usually I have to beg a friend to send me a tape/DVD of them. (- Do I have any friends here? hehehe... )Otherwise, I have to wait for them to play on come out on retail DVD. See the sacrifices we military members make for you civilian-types?

Took a solid Thai clench knee to the top inside of the eyebrow. Then that was followed by a few really hard punches, to the same spot. Fell on my back, and with head on the mat, he came in with a solid punch to the same spot, then an elbow or 2 there also. Queer that was reffing was WAY LATE. Split the skin at the inside of my eye right at the top of my nose, fractured my eye socket, broke my nose. Honestly, it scared me, a lot. That's why I pussed out and quit. Embarrassing also, since it happened at my own gym.

Meh. There's always UFC on Demand, also. Unfortunately, it's like $2 per fight. One way or another, I'll see all the UFC's events - even if not until next March when I get back stateside.
