So I run a Magnaflow preformance XL muffler, with a Magnaflow high flow cat, a Warpspeed Y-pipe, and custom piping to connect it all. The resonator was removed. It is a deep bassy sound below 3500RPM, after that is is loud, and poppy, very much like a Honda with a fart can.

Straight pipe from the turbo back to a 2.5 inch Magnaflow straight through. Very bassy below around 2,500 rpm with a bit of droning but at cruising rpm its sounds nice but is quiet enough for comfortable driving. I have no complaints with this setup at all. When the new turbo setup is done I'll be running around 3" piping likely with a high flow cat and a 3" Magnaflow with an electric cutout for the racing stuff. Depending on how it sounds with all of the new stuff I may change some stuff around. If the changes make it louder at my regular cruising RPM I'll probably go to a different muffler setup and just rely on the cutout for going all out.

2.5 from cat back w/ magnaflow race series muffler (looks like stock on steroids) don't like the rasp on hard accelerration (sp). other than that, it's deep and sexy.

im running stone mtn racing headers, y-pipe, and 2.5" back to stock cat and then magnaflow race series muffler. deep & throaty on acceleration in low rpms then intake takes over in higher rpms. i love the loud, low growl from the headers/y-pipe when decelerating (sp?) especially in 2nd gear! BTW...i know i need to finish exhaust and get a high-flow cat...just too lazy i guess, lol. but hey - its on my list!!

90 Maxima GXEIm running an ebay muffler, 2.5" Intake 3.5" Tip. Also had custom 2.5" piping and de-cat pipe installed. Car growls like crazy, it sounds like a WRX with an aftermarket exhaust. installed some pacesetter header, but they sucked beyond belief. Looking to get a y-pipe, who makes a good one for a third gen?! Car sounds great though, i love its sound.

Speak of the devil. Today i just installed the warpspeed Y pipe and the magnaflow high flow cat. It was the most exhausting thing to do, removing all the rusty components which WD40 did not help on the bolts. Cutting of the old parts as well. In the end, I still have the remainding exhaust stock but it sounds like a frekin beast at the moment. Everyone looking twice at my metallic plum 96 i30 with missing foglights. hahaha. i love it. I dont know how sound is going to be when i finish up with the catback but right now its screaming in mid and highs and a deep throaty sound in the lows.

A magnaflow muffler w/ custom catback is a whole lot cheaper than the SP2(at least from back in the day when I did the exhaust. I dont know how much it runs for now. I currently have a 5x8 oval body Magnaflow street series muffler (89.00 on ebay*new*), two resonators(35.00 ebay*new*) and 2.25 tubing straight to the test pipe (150.00). I just mimicked the SP2's design, thats why I have two resonators, which are located on the straight tubing before it reaches the muffler. My exhaust set-up: Aside from what I mentioned above, Custom enterprise test pipe OBX headers

I may sound like a Dumba$$ right now, but what's the best way to go about getting "Custom Piping" made up? Where do you get the piping to begin with, and do you just weld a bunch of stuff together, or can you actually go somewhere and buy lenghts and bends of exhaust piping pre-cut??? Sorry, Completely new to exhausts.......

"Custom piping" is generally just a way to say "not pre-bent piping from a kit." It means they had a muffler shop fab up the plumbing for them on-the-spot to work with the rest of the components they'd chosen for the exhaust system.

and even more on that note, make sure the shop does it from a roll-on lift not a 4 post. on a 4post your suspension hangs showing more room there really is. this allows for more errors in the fabrication of your custom piping. IMHO do a bolt-on.

Good point...I _had_ a WarpSpeed y-pipe, but it was removed due to banging. Crappy design and horrible customer service. Not recommended. For the rest, I have a factory cat and muffler, but a WarpSpeed B-pipe with resonator. So far, the B-pipe has been fine except for the installation when it was determined to be 6" to short for the maxima and had to be extended. Again, shoddy work on their part.

Also let it be noted, that although I didn't have many problems with Warpspeeds pipe to begin with, when I had to pull the pipe off to replace the Cali emissions (car is going back to Cali) two of the o2 sensors were trashed because they wouldn't come out. Mostly because of an inferior quality metal being used and even though there was a lot of anti-seize, it still ended up costing just under $500. to get it fixed.

haven't had any problems with the WSP pipes here, but then again the "newest" one I've used is about 2 years old. Two of the cars with 'em have had a lot of work done and have had their WSP pipes dropped/reinstalled about a dozen times each. :pActually frequent removal probably helps the damned things from getting rusted on. (and $500 for o2 sensors? wtf? genuine Nissan replacements are $90-125, labor is about 5 minutes' worth...)

On a federal emissions car, you are correct. However on a Cali spec car, the o2 sensors are $140. machanic's cost, and $224 list. He gave them to me for $140. ea. Gary 9friend of mine) owns a very reputable exhaust shop, and I have dealt with him on several occaisions. So I do trust this guy, and if he says it took 2.5 hours shop time, well...

I just purchased a Warpspeed Y-pipe & Hi-flow Cat and am waiting for the shipment to arrive. I am considering adding the Megan Cat-back exhaust system. However, I am not too sure what the best exhaust setup is for my car considering my needs. If my car is automatic and I don't plan on racing it, is it even worth adding a cat-back to it? I know the Y-pipe is supposed to give you the best bang for its buck as far as HP gains, which is why I purchased it, but I'm only looking for an increase in HP for personal satisfaction while doing my daily driving.

well the exhaust will give you a slight increase in hp, not much though im guessing around 5 to 10. so it won't really matter what exhaust you get that's my thinking. i just got the megan cause its deep and loud, too bad i gotta keep the silencer on most of the time though -_-. and i have an auto 95. =) personal satisfaction all the way here

I just had my Warpspeed Y-pipe and Magnaflow Performance Cat installed. I don't hear much of a difference outside the car, but inside I can hear and feel a little bit of the "bass" part of the sound. If the HP gain from these parts is about 5-10HP, how much of a gain would I get by adding a Megan Catback system? Also, does anyone know how long the battery must remain disconnected in order for the ECU to be reset/reprogrammed? OR is there a faster way to accomplish this?

vbxmaxima.8m.com has the reset procedure, the FSM does... or you can just unplug the battery... i think it's 2 hours. All the parts work as a system. You'll see 10-12whp and 10-12/wtq with a y-pipe alone, but adding a highflow cat and an exhaust probably won't do much more PEAK hp/tq... you might see 15-20whp and 15-20wtq total. However, the gain at each point on the RPM curve hopefully will be higher than with just the biggest power adder (the y-pipe) installed. So if you've already got a y-pipe installed, the high-flow cat doesn't really add any power to an NA car, the catback is probably only a few whp/wtq more...

In that case, it's not worth adding a cat-back exhaust system. I guess the only reason I'd consider it would be for the sound my car would make with it. Although the Hi-flow cat doesn't do anything I decided to purchase it along with the Y-pipe because it was a good, packaged deal. I've now read some posts about it needing an "adaptive learning" period of time. Therefore, does my ECU even need to be reset? Thanks for all your insight!
