* If there are any children on this forum that are below the age of 18 and are not used to accepting good advice as well as constructive criticism, then you should not be on this forum or playing with performance cars for the most part.* Myself and the rest of the CA moderators don't mind giving you guys sound advice in hopes that some of you actually take heed to at least some of it. But it is pretty disturbing to see the same garbage being posted over and over and over and over again. Some of you folks just dive right into the forum and start asking questions that has already been covered years ago. And some of you folks just completely look past or don't look at all the FAQ stickies that are available to help you guys with your many dilemmas. Some of the more senior and/or knowledged members know how to refer the newbies or passer-byers that are looking for a quick answer to the searchbutton and I personally appreciate it. Some might think it's harsh, but too many people want too much too quickly in such a short time and I'm sorry guys, but that kills the efficiency of this forum "Point Blank".
Example: I'm a member of a dsm forum because I have a DSM powered 1995 hyundai elantra. But when I have questions about certain things pertaining to the betterment of 4GxxT powered hyundai, I totally take advantage of the search option or even the archives because I know the information for what I'm looking for is somewhere in that forum or at least somewhere on the internet. And if it gets to the point where all my searching did not reveal an answer, then and only then would I be apt to ask a question via a new thread. And though I never had to ask them for anything, it's cool to know that I had that option.
OKAY, for all you boost-fiends that want big boost early, may I suggest you go and buy yourself an RB series engine or take your old KA series engine, turbocharge it and be sure to use nothing more than a T3 turbocharger. Your beloved CA18DET is a small engine and was not designed to give you super fast/lightning quick boost under 3000rpm. If you guys want the turbo to constantly spool, may I suggest leaving the wastegate unplugged and drive around with open boost
. Not smart is it
. When you guys don't take the advice that's giving to you all on the do's and don'ts with your CA projects, then you're not being very smart either.
The CA18DET is a high-revvin' engine that likes to build power from 3500rpm to wherever your wallet wants it to stop building power. So to smash the dramas, I'm going to give you all some facts that should help aleviate the forum from the worthless post syndrome. Pay attentionbecause this will concern most of you:
1. Do not run more that 12psi on your bone stock CA18DET engine set.
2.Do not come in here complaining if you do.
3.Do not drive your CA powered car without supplemental gauges to monitor critical engine functions.
4.Don't come in here saying that you only did it because you want to give it a quick test.
5.Do not attempt to wire your car if you don't know what you're doing.
6.Don't complain if your attempt failed because more than likely, you probably screwed-up something major to include the ecu (Read).
7.Do not advance the timing on the CAS of the CA18DET. This is not a honda engine, so lose the thought or you can consider your fragile ringlands CRACKED.
8. If your car is acting-up and you want advice from the forum, you must check the codes on the ecu and report the codes that are set. If your thread is a complaint and no ecu codes are attached, your thread will be deleted and this is how we'll know that you did not read because someone will complain that their thread was deleted (read).
9. Failure to properly ground your car will lead to a multitude of issues. Please ground your engine, intake manifold, and tranny to earth as that was the way the factory did and we should follow suit.
10. SR turbos were attached to SRs for a reason. Don't whack on an S15 ballbearing turbo and then complain about turbo lag. The bigger the backhousing, the more lag you will experience.
11. Installation of a bigger turbo without upgrading your fuel system is near pointless. So please take head to this comment. Your fuel system includes: fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump, fuel injectors, and some type of modification to your engine control system to include: upgraded AFM, addition of a super afc, or even an upgraded eprom.
12. A CA18DET's stock bottom end can handle more than 400+hp if and only if the engine set you got is in good health mechanically and/or you have the proper fuel and timing mods/tuning as well as a properly matched turbocharger to boot.
13. If you don't have the money to buy the supporting mods, winding-up the boost on your T25 will only help you blow your engine faster, not make it any faster.
14. The stock sidemount intercooler is a joke! I recommend never exceeding 8psi with a stock sidemount intercooler.
15. Boot-leg boost controllers from ebay are a recipe for disaster, so stay away.
16 Being cheap will only cost you more in the short run, so don't cheap-out on critical components (You've been warned).
17. If you don't care to follow the advice given, don't complain. The amount of experience on this forum is beyond vast. I have approximately 11 years experience and I've been where most of you have been or trying to go, so again, if you don't want to listen or at least to take heed, you'll be alright, but your project will end up being parted out like so many other failed CA18 owners.
18. Ahh, everyone wants a 10sec CA18DET that revs to 10,000rpm, huh! Be smart about it, just worry about getting your projects to run right and be reliable for daily use. You all are entitled to dream about fancy components, but reality "is what it is" and pondering on a high-performace CA while not out of reach, is just not practical when you don't know much about the CA or even have the cash to throw at what it takes to have a solid engine to take the amount of abuse needed to sprint 1320ft in sucha short time.
19. Fail to read and you've already doomed your project.
My fellow mod team: You guys can add to this at any time as I may add to it at a later date because I'm tired of typing as of now. If you guys do wish to ammend this thread, please remove this last portion and keep the numerical sequence.
Thanks,
Dee
Who's selling their CA18 next
?
Forged pistons are no insurance for ignorance
.
Spending money foolishly doesn't equate to a high hp car
.
Being cheap all the time equates to a waste of time
And lastly, I'm not done; for I've only just begun, so stay tuned
Dee
