  Tell us about your project!!!!

I thought that it would be good to have a nice little directory of what everyone is doing to their VH and stuff like that...

since Im not doing anything yet, i dont have anything to contribute. Once we get some more people involved, i'll sticky it!

So lets hear these sexy VH's setups!!!

Mines pretty simple compared to some. I'm fitted a VH45 from a 90 Q45 into a 89 Nissan Patrol. It's got a single Garrett T04z and will be running about 8-10psi. Exiting through straight 4" exhuast. I'm using the Patrol trans as it is the same as the Q45 just with different torque convertor and shaft. Manual control of the trans and a Link plus G2 ECU. The truck is used for winch challenges and so all up will weigh about 2000kgs, and that includes a front and rear winches, 24v system (for running winches) and a 12v system for everythuing else.
The plan is to have a reliable 500 to 550 hp with power from 3000revs to 7000 revs.
Progress so far, engine in, power steering sorted, both alternators mounted, wiring half done, (complete new loom for whole truck), trans is sorted. To do. Turbo gets fitted late this month, and tuning will be done just after that. New rollcage needs to be finished, winches batteries, etc remounted. Then just painting and ready to bend it again!!
8th Jan now, next race is 9th March so lots to finish in short time!
March 1st. Pulled out of comp as not ready. Motor is running with base ecu tune only. Sounds amzing. With any luck it should go on the dyno in about 2 weeks for final tune. The goal is 550 safe HP.

I've got a 1991 rx-7 that is getting my '91 VH45 swapped in. Plans are to make an ITB manifold with plenum for each bank, and to twin-turbocharge it using two GM-8 turbos. Fuel system will be blowthrough propane, with one ohg450 on each plenum. Stock motor for now, and when it blows up I have an extra block that I am going to sleeve out to a 4" bore and build with nice rods and pistons, along with putting my sick modded heads on. Transmission will be a T-56 from an LT1 Fbody, with the use of an adapter plate.
Progress so far is not much.. I have made my engine mounts and am using a universal SBC engine crossmember to mount the engine and just made the mount adapters to bolt the nissan to the vh45 crossmember. Oil pan is almost done, and all I need to do is make my adapter plate for my t-56 and get a clutch/starter setup. It's coming slow because I'm working fulltime and going to college fulltime..

The plan...

S14 (late) 240SX Chassis

Late (94) VH45DE with built bottom end (Ross/Manley/ARP) and stock heads/cams (GTIR Valvesprings will be the only definite change with the possibility of SS valves)
Custom intake manifold
Twin Turbo, GT35Rs
Engine management is up in the air right now, trying to learn all options before deciding.

BRETT Engineering GM T400 transmission adaptor kit
JW Trans and custom converter
Specialty-Z TT Flexplate (ring gear flipped to work with stock starter)

Modified rear IRS (DSS axles, SPL arms, HKS Drag suspension) I would like to backhalf the car and use a 9-inch, but NHRA Sport Compact ET Bracket rules will not allow it. If the car keeps busting up pumpkins I'll go solid axle and just run the domestic events.

I'm also trying to put together a 92 VH with stock rods and ross pistons for SC'd duty in a Z32. That's down the road though, the dedicated track car is first.

92 VH45DE into a 99 Nissan Frontier 4X4. Using Q45 trans to 4X4 transfer case. Mostly stock with intake, custom dual exhaust and hopefully a NICO ECU. After lottery winnings I will get ElWesso's supercharger.

EDIT: sold truck, scored 90 300zx. vh, z32 na 5 speed, na rear end

Since you're going for drag racing you may consider swapping the Q45 differential in. Its an R200 as well but uses the same axles as the 300ZX TT, which are huge. Plus its a lower ratio, which with the turbo setup, should make you faster on the strip. If the diff itself has a hard time staying together you may considering trying to fit the TT differential, which is an R230. Translation... its slightly bigger than the Ford 9 inch

I can't remember if the subframes are different or just the arms. I know at the very least, the subframe design between the 240 and 300 are very, very similar, which would make it easier for the differential swaps.

I was unaware that the Q45 diff was an R200, I thought it was an R230 just like the TT-Z. I'm not terribly concerned with the axle size since Driveshaft Shop will be making me some axles that I shouldn't be able to break. The center section, as you mentioned, is my big concern.

A Z32 subframe is wider than an S14 subframe. The control arms are interchangeable, but the frame itself isn't. I'm sure if I bought a TT-Z subframe I could get creative and make the R230 work in the S14 subframe... we'll see.

I honestly don't want any ratio taller than the stock 4.083. With the TH400 gearing and the 28" slicks I'll be running, I'll be at 163MPH at 8000RPM in 3rd gear, which is exactly where I want to be. My goal is to build a reliable, consistent, low-9 second ET Bracket car.

lol, no problem. Actually, your input prompted me to look into an R230 rear as an option, and apparently Full Race has done one in an S14 already. Their car has a 2JZ which necessitates the extra strength...

You know... I totally forgot, you can have the strength of the R230 with a 4.10 gear setup. I believe you can get them here: http://www.leadergears.com/sit...ent.5

That may work out for what you want.

Was that a hint that the SR20DE heads are closer to the VH45DE than once thought? Or just that the springs are a good match?

There is a thread in this forum about using the GTi-R inner valvesprings with the stock outter springs to help with increasing the rev limit slightly and increasing seat pressure. They are a nearly direct drop-in to the VH, but no, that does not mean the heads are anywhere near close. I have seem both heads first hand and they are very different.

Hello to all nico members. My project:(sucks but I love it) 300zxtt, vh45, custom adaptor zxtt box, exedy twin clutch, aluminum drive shaft,150hp nos, backyard headers and exaust. The reason i say "backyard" is I used part zxtt 76mm ss system, part vh hedder, part toyota and ford hedders.I have made hedders for show cars in the past thats why Im embarriced. But hey i was rushed and did not spend any money to finnish off the car,and moved to new house all in 1 week. The cars running now but has a noise on the bottom end. So to all nico members in NZ when u see my Z and Im sure u will dont laugh its only temp. I think its the only running Z 4.5l here in auckland. my new plans are : 94+ vh45, master power 800hp turbo, retuned ecu,ss hedders(made in my workshop),nos .

motorcycle ITB's because they are cheap, mounted in sets of 4, and have injectors/fuel rails already in them. The itb's will be angled towards each other cross ram style, make a plenum airbox that mounts under where the air horns attatch to the tb's, and have each plenum over the the valve covers like VG30DE's..

Well I just finished my project yesterday...

1986 Nissan HR31 Skyline GTS-X coupe, fully optioned, with JDM FGY32 Cima VH41DE V8
Manual conversion, custom 4-1 headers, dual exhaust system, freed up intake, retuned ECU etc.

I'm ***king happy to have it going now, it drives so damn smooth and has power at all RPM in all gears, it's a wicked street car.

Future mods include replacing the engine with a professionally built (by a stockcar engine builder) VH41DE with VH45DE internals, light headwork, insane cams, and GTI-R inner valve springs... setup will be good for 450HP and an 8000rpm limiter. Will post up some pics & vids sometime.

Oddly enough I was going to use susuki hayabusa bodies before I had the custom ones done.
There will be 4 complete sets already spaced out to suit the VH45 port spacing on ebay soon! Even got the correct susuki coupling pipes and modded to fut standard bosch injectors.

I think I'm just going to use the ITB's, megasquirt, and the automatic tranny with everything else on the motor stock, because I'm building up a Badass all billet steel SBC that is going in a 280zx and it will be way more powerful.. and I don't need two thundering projects and would rather just drive the rx7.

definitely none of those statements are true.

And if you could send me a set?

My plans are to put the VH45 from my 95 Q into the 95 S14 I just bought, but with the auto for now. (it's currently auto and once I get the mounts it should be able to be mounted in a weekend that way without having to buy Z32 trans and adaptor plate and all the clutch stuff)

not sure how wide your frame rails are on the Z31, but the pump would sit where my drivers side frame rail is on my 240Z conversion. I cut the frame rail off on the pass side for the alternater to fit. I quickly looked at putting the VH45DE in a Z31 an also noticed that the engine would interfere with the brake booster.
good luck

HR31 engine bay is pretty much the same as Z31. The alternator is going to be a problem with the VH45, not sure about the power steering (it's fine with my 41).

The brake booster however, needs to be swapped out for an 80s Pulsar booster. I just found one recently, it appears to be a small enough diameter not to interfere with the head, but still long enough to drive the brake master cylinder sufficiently. I'll put pics up when I can be bothered.
