Ok figured I would start a thread to ask any random questions I might have...

The motor I bought was labeled as uncut harness. The motor DID come with an uncut harness to the ECU...BUT it is cut in two more places in the engine bay. I haven't tried to troubleshoot these two places yet, but I have an idea that one has wiring for the headlights/turnsignals, etc....and the other I'm not sure of (I'm thinking A/C, MAF's, AIT, etc). All the wires from random sensors are cut with tails remaining (except the AIT sensor which was cut with no wires remaining..bastards). Also, there is only one fuse/relay box with the motor, not sure if there should be more. This is my first motor that I have every bought in this fashion, so is this at all common concerning a motor with an "uncut" harness? I guess this install is just going to take a little more time to wire than originally anticipated. (Side note*...the cut harness you see laying on the ground is of no real concern, its the one for the interior gauges and whatnot)

And here is how it is sitting right now....got the turbos and manifolds pulled off last night.

I also took the spark plug cover off and checked every plug. The plugs themselves all looked good. I will be doing a leakdown test this weekend...even though I plan on rebuilding anyway

OOFDAH! That is not what I would call an "uncut" wiring harness. I would get that replaced from the place you bought it from or you will have a lot of soldering to do my friend. It wouldn't be that tough to reconnect it because you would simply have to match the wire colors (mainly), but what a major PITA.

The motor looks to be in reasonable condition compared to some we've seen recently.

that looks to be fuse box wiring which is useless to you, the key is if the efi harness was uncut.

Ahh I'm dumb and didn't read that right. Yeah if your engine harness is okay, then forget all that other crap.

Alright, thats goodnews then. I was just about to bury myself in the FSM wiring schematic, guess I will hold off on that for now. One other thing I can't figure out is why in the hell they would unbolt one of the motor mounts and cut straight through the rubber piece of other one...makes no sense when it is only a single nut.

Got another quick question though. I have the RB25 transmission, but still have the RB26 clutch and flywheel only. I know the 250mm rb26 clutch won't work but will the stock rb26 flywheel work with the 240mm rb26 clutches?

My RB25 was the same way

I read this about 6 times now and still dont know what you are asking.

The rb26 clutch is a 250mm diameter clutch while the rb25 clutch is a 240mm diameter clutch, which is apparently why the rb26 clutch won't work with the rb25 transmission. So what I'm asking is....are the flywheels the same/will they work?

Also..are we 100% positive that the rb26 clutch won't work in the rb25 transmission? Because I keep on seeing (on takakaira and similar) clutches that say rb26dett/rb25det/rb20det....but these are primarily twin disc clutchs and are 200-225mm diameter.

It ends up the people I bought my motor and transmission from went ahead and put the rb25 flywheel and clutch on my motor for me and forgot to tell me. I measured it and it was a 240mm clutch and i was like wtf? So gave them a call yesterday and they told me about it.

??? from what people have told me, it looks better than most motors people have been getting lately. I'm taking the head off this week, but so far everything else has been in great condition (other than the turbos with leaky seals).

Check my other thread down lower...it even came with the oil drive so i dont' need to collar the crank

Why are you taking the head off? Unless it has some problem or your leakdown/compression test did not go well there is no reason to take it off.

Well, I am planning on taking the entire motor apart and inspecting everything (pistson, rings, rods, bearing, etc). Then when I put everything together, granted I don't need any new parts (thought I will probably get new crank and rod bearings anyway) I am going to put it all back together and replace every gasket with OEM nissan gaskets that I bought and a Cometic metal headgasket. I do not plan on removing this motor again if I don't have to.

Yea...not replacing the crank, only the crank bearings...though I did see one on ebay for extremely cheap that needs repair yesterday.
