what is that cradle under the motor? what are you doing for a crossmember?

That was just a stand I built for the motor. I put the engine in the engine bay on that to get an idea af where mounts for the transmission were going to be ect.

The engine is now bolted in with the stock cross member unmodified.I built new mounts that bolt to the engine instead of changing the cross member.I will post more picks later

thats what I had seen done before, thats what I was planning on doing, then I saw yours and thought you were building a custom subframe... So how far off is your shifter going to be? and what are you going to do about it? just cut a new hole and be done with it, or are you going to try to cut and weld the shifter like sport compact car did on that vq35de?

I got the transmission mount finished today. The z32 gearbox usesthe same isolater as the s13 so I took an automatic transmission cross member and sectioned it to move it down and back.

The engine is now bolted into its new home. I had to make a small bulge in the transmission tunnel to fit the starter but it will all fit now with hardly and mods to the chassis.

This is the difference between the stock auto cross member and the sectioned one.

Yeah it looks like its close, a little bit off center... Is there gonna be room to hit all 6 gears (5 + R)?

I think he got his in the same group buy from john dixon that I did. If youre interested in getting one let me know [email protected] guy is supposed to be looking at my car if he buys it I'll have an adaptor plate for sale.

Yes I got my adapter plate from John Dixon. Note my starter will not fit with the adapter plate.

It is not a major problem but the notch in the plate for the starter was not made big enough so i will have to ream it out a bit. Just a heads for who ever has one from the group buy.

I may have the plate drawn up in CAD and find out how much it will cost me to make these. Prices for aluminum are not that bad here in Canada and the exchange would make it even cheaper for those paying in USD.

I know that some of us would be happy to have templates of the adapter on card stock as well. All you would have to do is trace each side of the adapter plates out along with the corresponding bolt holes. You could even make a little assembly line to have them cut out and all of the bolt holes punched out. I know I would pay quite a bit of money for saving me all the time and effort of figuring it out for myself. Anyone else interested in paper templates?

send an adaptor place in to a CAD/CAM guy and let them model it and then you could load it onto a CNC machine and it could just pop them off like its nothing.

Read my other thread.. I can do it, or have one of the CAD majors here at school do it, in any program you want.. Pro/E, solidworks, autocad, inventor, etc. We have all of those programs here at school for unlimited use to students!

yeah my brother does cad cam and my friend in kentucky has a buddy with his own CNC mill... not that I'm motivated enough to make use of them. but the opportunity to make a few bucks is out there for someone.

Hey just to let you know I got my transmission and I have the solution, remove what I affectionately call the "dog bone" link between the output of the transmission and the shifter, and take the bushing that the shifter inserts into and weld it to the output shaft that comes out of the tranmission. shorten the big bracket that holds the transmission by the same length, and voila, it lines up. They do the same thing in the issue of sport compact car with the RX7 with the ls1 on the cover, they have a hybrid how to on swapping a vq35 and 6 speed into S14 but the shifters end up in the same location so it will work. one advantage is the Z32's shifter bracket is metal while the Z33's is aluminum, so ours should be much easier to shorten and reweld! If you need pics let me know.. I have the issue at home. Haven't shortened my transmission yet though waiting to get the motor in the car so I can measure how much I'll need to remove.

That was exactly what I had planned on doing. I just don't have a shifter or the wishbone to do it with yet. I found a parts brake down for the z32 on line somewhere and from what I saw in the picture, I figured I could do it the way you described.

Also with the Z32 shifter you can knock out the stoppers that hold the pivot ball in place and and move it up then put a few tacks to hold it in place and you now have a short shifter.

I will have to find the sight that has all that info on it.

UPDATE

I finished the wireing this week end, the VH harness is now a direct plug-in to the 240 chassis harness.

I had a few issues though. I bought a harness and igniters as well as some intake runners of a guy here on NICO (popup I think), I told him that i needed 94 stuff but he sent me pre 94 stuff except the ECU, I think that is a 94.

I did not nitice that there was a difference in the harnesses and everything sat around for 5mnths while I was waiting for the plate. Now I realize that the harness is completely different, all the plugs are diferent and there are a few things missing, alos the igniters are different and the pre 94 dont even fit onto the coil pack cover.

Luckily when I bought the engine there were parts of a cut harness on it, I should be able to rewire the pre 94 with the 94 plugs.

I aslo pulled the engine and transmission back out of the car and put it onto my home made start stand where i will test th wireing and attempt to run the engine before I begin any mods. I decided to try out the starter and see how the gears meshed withe adapter plate and spacer. To my dissapointment the thing made such a noise it was not funny. I may just be mine but I am going to have to shime the starter or something.I will look into this more tonight.

I've figured I'll need to shim the starter too I've been thinking about that, but its not unusual to have to shim replacement ones anyway so that shouldn't be too big of a deal. If you need the ignition components I seem to have most of them for my '90 motor I haven't even looked at it too closely but I know I have the ignitors on top of each valve cover and stuff, I'm gonna be going with EDIS so I'm not sure I'll need any of that stuff. Dont know if that helps you out at all but if you need the stuff I have let me know.

I have ignitors from at the earlier vh like the 90, they are the same as the CA18 (big). The 94 VH uses the smaller one that are found on the SR20det.The pin out forn the pre 94 haness seems to be the same on the 94 so it all should work the same I just need to swap some connectors.

Thanks for the offer though.
