I've never seen hood pins that style before. What's the point of those? Are they merely for show? Nice write up - very detailed! And it does indeed look nice.

They're very nice, when you lift the latch, it slides the locking pin out of the hood pin itself. Neat little gadget, my buddy has had them on his Z33 for about 2 years:

You can see how flush they sit! These pins rock and are very high quality, good writeup as well brokeAS240sx!

^^^ Wasn't cuz he didn't have hood pins, but gives you an idea - actually, this would have been prevented if he had hood pins he had to lock down, hahahaha.

I'm in the same boat. I need hood pins bad. I have been considering going back to a stock hood if I could find one.

No more excuses guys, I did a damn write up! .

Don't make me hop on a plane and go over there w/ hood pins & dremel in hand, hahahaha.

Standard hood pins are even easier to install ... by why not go all out? Best thing to do is find out where those CF ones are sold! That's the BEST!

Yes most definitely, just bend it, or loosen the bolts and adjust accordingly. May be due to a slight wreck.

Sure, it will install... keep in mind this hood pin is holding down ~13lb hood... Miata hood shouldn't be too heavy, but still - better to address the root problem than put a band-aid on it.

hate to bring up an old thread.. but hey i searched!!....

I notice we have the same s13 hood bro the vens on top are pissing me off how do you keep the water out and not going all over your engine...

I would assume the correct answer is...

Don't drive in the rain. There is a hole in your hood to vent air, maybe fill the hole, but then you loose the vent. Choice is yours!

rain water isnt gonna ruin ur engine unless ur intake is right under those holes or suckin a ton of water

I don't have any of those issues (at least no major ones) - I guess so cal rains are not as crazy as ny rains.

It probably also helps that I have electric fans.

The only time water really enters those vents is during very slow moving/stopping. And it has to be quite a downpour since the area directly behind the vents can take a bit of water.

Maybe with your setup (I'm guessing stock clutch fan), the fan blows all that water coming in all over the engine bay.

With the electrical fan setup, the fans are a bit further from the vent... and in most cases of rain, probably aren't even running since it's likely cold outside.

And here's an updated picture of how the pins look painted:

Everyone loves these pins over the typical ones.

Also, to add:

Guys, make SURE to keep the Aerocatch mechanism well-lubricated.

If it gets dry or dusty, it WILL lock up on you, and you WILL snap a latch. Not good when you're about to go on-track or head across town.

Every time you wash the car, hit the pivot points with some WD-40 or other good lube.
