Recently noticed a whistling noise from transmission. It almost sounds like the noise you get from a vacuum leak connected with vent controls. Seems to be present in all gears and not dependent on engine load. The sound sort of comes and goes randomly. If you shift from Drive to Neutral it disappears briefly then returns. Any thoughts or suggestions? Getting ready to put some Red Lube Guard in Transmission to see if that helps.

How many miles on unit? Has the ATF been changed every 30k? Color of ATF compared to brand new from bottle?

Are you sure it is not a failed vacuum hose?

The Q has 105K miles with a factory rebuilt at 50K. Fluid has been changed every year with a recent power flush about a month ago. Sound is not altered by changing any of the vent or AC settings. I don't think that there is much in the way of vacuum actuators in the system, but there are some motors. Tried to localize noise to possible belt driven components such as alternator, PS, AC compressor, and no indication that it is coming from up front.

i have used Lucas trans addetive and it works, just don't know if it is compatible fluid on your Q. I would only used Lucas for my addetives, because it works.

Put in on a lift in gear and listen with your stethoscope to locate noise.

Lucas is one of the worst additives one can use. Absolute junk.

i swear on Lucas. Only goo daddetive I would put on my cars. I had a Benz that was slipping transmission put that in and slipping was gone. Had a differetial that was humming, put that in humming gone, had valves tapping, put that in tapping gone. We all like our own preference and mine is Lucas.

The problem turned out to be a torn gasked on the IAC which of course sits almost on top of the transmission. Hard to believe that this was making such a loud noise. Part of the give away was that the idle was starting to creap upwards as the problem got worse. Thanks everyone for your assistance.
