  Is a Retard---------------->

Ok I need someones help here. I bought this shinny new vert that amazingly included the boot. However I am about to shred it into tiny little unrecognizable pieces. I freakin have not a clue how this thing attaches behind the seat. The boot has a c shaped rubber/plastic strip across the front of the boot. The service manual says it has a velcro strip to hold it down. There is nothing behind the seat or on the boot that suggests it ever had velcro, also there is nothing for the c shaped strip to pop onto. What the hell??? I have never ever had to install a boot in the dealer as part of my service duties so I am as lost as a 350lb hooker!!

please post photos. of said area to help me figure this crap out. There is no difference between either of my verts which is adding to the confusion.

I also read about platsic retainer that goes to the top of back seat in this vert forum before. I did some research and found out that this K3452-6X001 piece was missing. I bought it from local dealership but haven't had a chance to put it on and try. The name is BOOT RETAINER. Your boot cover and this retainer should be attached together like ZIP LOCK style, not velcro. When I first bought my vert, I noticed that middle section(back seat area) of boot cover kinda just seats there without securing it, so I thought something was not right.

Nice work 94'..

I knew that peice existed... I knew I was missing it... But I never went so far as to research the part number. I just assumed it would be most other 'vert specific parts... not in production anymore..

How much was it?

Thanks!

I actually have that piece except it was warped by the sun (too much time being Topless I suppose). I'm trying to make one from metal (maybe some aluminum angle - guess i could go crazy and have it powdercoated). I hardly ever use the cover anyway. Living close to the coast leads to unexpected rain showers (ya know the 5 min downpours). Anyhow I'll let you know if anything pans out about the boot retainer.

$11.67 listed, but paid $8.89 with some discount.

GoinTopless240,
Can you post a pic of this piece installed?

Mine doesn't work either. THat boot is probably the most poorly-designed piece on the car, it doesn't really fit anywhere *properly*.

With that said, I do one of two things with mine:

I usually either tuck that edge of the boot between the seatback and the bulkhead (may have to remove the seatback, it comes out easy), OR I just leave it laying atop the seatback.

There's a metal lip behind the seatback that the "ziplock" piece is supposed to lock onto, but - it doesn't.

Thanks for your replies guys. I felt like such an idoit trying to install this thing. Nobody at work knew how it attached. So as I tried I felt like a monkey F--in a football.

Funny how that ziplock strip is only listed for 93 and 94 but not 92. perhaps 92 was velcro? My car and the service manual supplements I have are for 92. But the boot is for my 93.

I didnt run the boot without the front being attached for fear it might catch air and blow off at freeway speeds. I am guessing noe of you have had this problem by just letting it rest on the seat?

Nope - It stays in place.... the wind actually holds it down, as it goes the opposite direction of travel.

I also tuck the outer edges UNDER the opening for the top.

cool I am gonna see if I cant get the listed part but I will feel relieved it wont lift off. I knew it tucked under the back and along the edge of the seat it was just that front peice I was having issues with.

I would think so too because of down force you are getting.
But somehow if the boot catches the wind, I guess it'll fly~~.

You can find the snaps in most fabric/crafts stores. The portion of the snap your talking about already has the hole in it. you just reuse the screw. Just be sure to get the proper diameter snap.

I did not install that on my black vert. I dont have the boot for that one. I installed it on my red one that came with the boot. It just didnt have that strip in the picture. The strip cost me about 7 bucks.

Besides you would not want to do the boot thats on my black vert. The way it is attached is hidious. There are snaps all along the outside of the black metal trim to hold it on.

this is the one the boot went on. Sorry havent takin any of my own pics yet

Those are cheap, so go to dealership and get them. Screw head inside the button is not strong enough, so you better be careful not to strip the head. I learned it hard way... The part number is K0698-9X001. The name is SNAP CELICA... That's what's on the bag. All 4 snaps were in one bag. List price is $2.03 each. I happened to have a new set, but sorry. They are not for sale.

Since this thread is starting to gather part#'s with identifying pics I renamed it for search purposes.

If you have pics and part#s for specific boot associated parts please post them.

How/Where did you find the Boot Retainer?

None of the dealerships in my area have this part.
